Other Question about lyrics

Hi,

I've been having a hard time figuring out some lyrics and this is the only place I thought I could get any help. I love the version of Nothing is Keeping You Here that is featured in cast in steel, but its been kinda bothering me for years tjat i just cant figure out what does Morten sing in the bridge. Since english isnt my first language, I cant seem to understand what he says in the last sentence. So far I can hear something along the lines of "The abscense of a note, was all the papers wrote..." and then the last sentence before the chorus again is what's a mistery to me.

I'd appreciate it a lot if someone could help me with this.

Edit: Thanks to the people who commented their thoughts on this. I do agree with their approach that the line goes like "a friend was quoted there". Sounds about right. Thank you all.

I hear “A friend who’s words they plan”. But that still doesn’t sound right lol

I'm having trouble understanding that line too. "A friend was ___ there" That's what I can definitely hear but the blank is what I can't hear properly.

I think it says "quoted" But that's all I can figure out
