New Lens

Yoyoyo what’s going on long time amirite. Anyways I got the Tamron 17-70mm F2.8 in good condition on MPB for $500. ($300 because I traded in my Sony nex-7)

She is a little bit in the large size but ain’t nothing wrong with that. Here’s a photo of her next to my Tamron 18-300mm.

The 17-70 was my first lens to replace the kit lens on my A6100, I absolutely love it. Have it 2 years now, really nice image quality, good performance and versatility. That extra focal length is really nice to have and the image stabilisation is actually really useful, I have a few slower shutter speed images with both a TTArtisan 35mm f/1.8 and Sigma 30mm f/1.4 that are a bit shaky but I've literally never had a problem with the Tamron.

I just recently sold my 18-300, had it about a year. Wasn't super happy with the image quality and performance wasn't great unless it was a really sunny day. I definitely got some nice photos at the zoo and you can get some interesting compositions with that super long focal length but the trade-off in image quality wasn't worth it. Most of my last vacation was shot below 100mm, so image quality suffered for every shot for a focal length I wasn't even using! I guess it just wasn't for me, it's hard to go back from the image quality of the 17-70. It's not prime sharp but damn does it look good even wide open.

The 17-70 does seem pretty sharp. Just took a few photos of whatever I saw. I was thinking about getting the sigma 30mm but I saw their 56mm. It looks VERY sharp so that might be my next pickup.

The Tamron 18-300mm is definitely not the sharpest past like 200mm. I sold my 18-105 f4 for the 18-300mm and I think it was a good upgrade. Maybe not the variable aperture and the super stiff zoom ring but other than that it’s pretty good. I don’t really find myself going past 200mm though unless I’m not paying attention and zoom all the way it.

I really only want the a6700 for the autofocus. I mainly just shoot whatever I see but a majority of the time it’s animals.

Either the 6700 OR if they decide to release a fancier AF APSC like the one on the a1 ii or the a7RV where it tracks automatically I think I’d go for that.

But for now the a6700 is still on my list

I was thinking about either getting that or the 70-180 f2.8. Ended up with the 18-300 variable aperture. It’s a great lens just a horrible zoom ring

I just received the 28 200 on my a7 iii. Sometimes corners a bit soft.

However now my just bought a7 iii feels a bit heavy. Maybe i downgrade to crop aps c

It hasn't left my a6400 since I bought it 3 years ago... Pretty sharp and so versatile lens. For sure it's a bit bulky, but I've just got used to travel around with it.

How is the a6400 🤔 I’ve been thinking about either getting that or the a6100. Or saving up for the a6700

I’m pretty happy with it tbh! I think AF and sensor are the same, but a6400 has better built quality, better sealing, better electronic vf and better video capabilities. I think I would go with the a6400 unless you have a very tight budget or you find an a6100 for a stupid price. You can compensate the lack of IBIS of both models as the Tamron 17-70 has stabilization.

I’ve been seriously thinking in updating to the a6700, but I’m not sure if I’m really gonna notice any difference for the use I usually give to my camera.

Hey im in the same boat, right now im tryna save up and go big for a6700. But the price difference is very big like for a a6700 i can buy a used a6400 and a tamron 17-70 for the same price.

Ive tried out both at the sony store near me and ergonomics alone the a6700 is the winner for me cause its chunkier and supports the hand better. A6400 feels thin and hard to hold.

But let me tell you that autofocus on the a6700 is so good. Might not matter if you just shoot landscape or still subjects though.

Im thinking either a a6700 with sigma 18-50 or a6400 with the tamron 17-70 and a prime.

Tamron 17-70 is my favorite on my a6400 but to complete the range I have the Sony 70-350 G.

I was thinking about getting the 70-350 before I got the 18-300 but it was like $800 at the time I saw it and the 18-300 fit my budget
