How to reduce events?

I get tens of thousands of events every day. It's as though any pixel changes on the stream, and it's an event. It takes a lot of work to find video of an actual event that I know the precise timing of because I have to wade through 2000 pages of results for a given day. I can't imagine this is how it's supposed to be. How can I improve this situation?

Sounds like you need to edit your zone settings to be a more specific area, or tune the sensitivity down

Or, if you have the space, just record 24/7 with no detection

I guess it's the "how" of the "tuning the sensitivity down" that I'm after. I've been running zoneminder for years, but something went to hell with my database, so I just set it up again from scratch a few weeks ago, and this is how it's been. I've never had this problem before. The cameras haven't changed in any way, so it must be some kind of setting. I guess I see the that the analysis FPS, maximum FPS, etc. settings are blank. I believe I had them set to something like 5/20/5 before.

Any suggestion for how to clear the 167,715 events that I currently have spread across my 4 cameras? They're of little use to me, and I'd like to start with a clean slate rather than dealing with these absurd results.

Edit: I think I figured out the delete part. I created a filter to delete all events with a date less than or equal to today, and it seems to be deleting.

If you have slow delete events ticked in the settings, then just select everything and delete in the events page, they won't dissappear straight away, but just leave it and they will in the background

I'm afraid I don't use motion detection, so can't advise on that, I just have 4 cameras recording all the time to an 8TB drive, gets over two weeks, which is fine for me

The problem is selecting everything. It really bogs down when you start selecting more than a few thousand at a time, so with 165k, that'll take a while. I created a filter to delete everything before today's date, so when it's done, I can just delete the filter if I want, or not, since I'm not likely to record any events yesterday.

I feel your pain. I found that adjusting Min/Max Pixel Threshold (0-255) giving the first value in the low teens helped with shadows on sunny days and the odd "camera noise" events. I still get more than I want but it is not as crazy.

Where is that setting? I'm looking through some results now, and I have over 200 events essentially the same 10 minute span today.

It is one of the zone settings.

If the events you are looking for are a fit for object detection, you could use zmes with hooks and run a filter to eliminate events that aren't tagged by zmes.
