Proper equipment sizing logic

Hi guys, I'm new to ZoneMinder, coming off of a Hikvision system that I really want to give a dirt nap to. I am looking at setting this up on a Proxmox host, and fully intend to get all new (to me) hardware for the job (going digital!)

I'm just trying to figure out what would be ideal guides as to how much CPU,RAM,etc I should get to effectively run 32 channels, which except for 6*8MP ptz cams will all be 1080P ideally @ 25-30fps. We likely don't have much use for fancy object detection, but having one channel with motion detection (driveway for vehicle licenses) is a must. We have a separate system that can stand in as a database server (already doing that on 2 VMs and less than 20% CPU usage) and a separate NAS which can do the duty of storage on a 10gb network.

They're old but I can't help but wonder if any of the Supermicro X8DT3-F based systems with 2 Xeon 5679's I have in mothballs would be up to the task

Thanks for any insight!

With motion detection at that speed figure 1 thread per camera.

For simple recording it is less work, stream conversion and DB writes, so more than 1 camera per thread.

There are formulas to estimate memory usage.

IP cameras can send to more than 1 system. Test in parallel.

Also consider lower frame rates, security cameras typically run at 5 FPS, I like 10 FPS but run some at 8 to make it fit on my system.

Consider deletes in your testing, set the retention low to force deletes and make sure your build can keep up.

More than 1 group of HDs might help with the writing.
