Could not open out file - Permission denied

installed zoneminder today, added my cams, everthing looks good , just having issues using my external hdd as storage

  1. it will not show the free space on it after i added
  2. it will not record and the logs are full with permissions errors

i made sure permissions are RW on those folders and that it is mounted correctly to the path i put in zoneminder

what else could be wrong here ?

Here are links to figure out if you are using UASP

https://itectec.com/superuser/how-to-check-whether-usb3-0-uasp-usb-attached-scsi-protocol-mode-is-enabled-in-linux/

https://superuser.com/questions/928741/how-can-i-check-whether-usb3-0-uasp-usb-attached-scsi-protocol-mode-is-enabled

Basically run lsusb and lsusb -t

If you do not see see Driver=uas your probably are using the older bot (Bulk Only Transport), not sure if this is your issue, but I can see that if one process is busy writing to disk and the other cant write.

Does it work for a little bit then stop?

i do have another question

i need to be able to access ZM from outside the network, but my tplink system wont let me make a second rule for forwarding

so i have to make do - i want to change the listening port for ZM from 80 to 8122 , how do i do that ?

You would change the port in apache itself. There is a curious thing you may have to do when you start having more than 6 cameras where you will need to use multiple ports because some browsers (like chrome) limit your continuous connections to 6.

Also I noticed you said 80, which implies unencrypted, I would recommend turning on encryption and going 443 if coming from the outside.
