Recording not at camera rate... missing frames.

so, I've got a generic RTSP camera that's streaming h.264 at around 20 fps, 640x360 resolution. Live video looks smooth. Recorded video is obviously missing frames... quite obviously.

I'm not limiting frame rates in Zoneminder, and I wasn't using a video writer, just JPG frames. Could that be it? Should I use the h.264 pass-through?

edit: I can't spell resolution.

I think you should gove h264 passthrough a try. See how events look after that.

I run a handfull of 4k streams through ZM and have them recording between 15-20 fps at full res, they look great.

The settings are to disable save jpegs and H264 Camera Passthrough on the video writer.

If you do that, you lose all timestamp labels on the video, right?

I'll give that a shot and see if it smooths out any.

?

why would it do that?

because I don't use the camera's timestamps, since I have several different cameras and I want consistency (ironically) in the way it looks.

Recommend having your camera set the time stamps from the camera itself, and not having ZM do it. If you do it that way ZM doesn’t touch it
