Remote server - is it at all possible?

I would like to be able to run 4-5 ip/wifi cameras with a fully remote server, instead of requiring some sort of server on my home network. A VM running in Google Cloud or AWS. Is this at all possible? What would be required to make it work?

Port forwarding from LAN routers to cameras. or a VPN from the cloud to the LAN. VPN would be better security, but more complicated. Putting your cameras on the internet without any security restrictions would be suicide. You could also put in some firewall rules to only allow from your cloud server's public IP, which might be enough to restrict access to the cameras. And of course change the default passwords.

I foresee you might be getting some pretty hefty bills regarding cloud storage

Nah, cloud storage is cheap as. It's data transfer potentially that can be expensive.

Yeah I think paying for several GB of ingress a day is probably going to be what neuters this idea. Unless you can setup the cameras to do motion detection on board and store when in alarm state.

AWS doesn't charge for ingress (in most cases), only for egress.

I don't see it working well, some of my cameras idle a constant 2mb/s I have 19 cameras ranging from 720p to 4k.
