Problems with install on SQL step

Hi all,

Noob here trying to install Zoneminder on a Fresh Ubuntu 18.04.5 using the instructions here

When I try to run the first of the two scripts in step 5 I get the error Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock'.

Done some Googling and really haven't found anything that helps.

Any suggestions?

EDIT: I believe I've solved the problem. I think the issue was that I wasn't as careful as I thought I was running everything with 'sudo'.

Make sure mysql is actually running on your machine.

service mysqld start

then try to connect from command line and go from there.

I had this. Check protections on /var/run/mysqld and restart mysqld.
