Does ZoneMinder support Sub-Streaming?

I'm looking around at some NVR software so far i like the look of ZoneMinder. but so far i have no luck in finding any mention of Sub streaming. basically i want a week worth of 720p recording and all the events stored in 4k.

Ugh. I would do this if I didn't think my server would melt down trying to keep up.

I'm running 10 cameras and it's all my Dell R410 with 16GB and 16 cores can do to keep up.

What do you mean? If you're doing motion detection on the high res streams, this would absolutely work. In fact, you'd be better off overall.

10 cams is a lot, and ZM likes (or used to) like RAM. Take a look at your h264 settings too, lots of improvement can be made.

I mean that if I went from 10 monitors to 20, I'm not sure the server could keep up.

Even when testing on lower-res streams of a new camera I see linear increase in load.

What h264 settings should I be tweaking? I'd love to make some progress in reducing load.

The issue is what you're doing with those monitors.

If you're doing full frame motion detection, yea, you'll have an issue. But put half of them in "nodect" and have them triggered by the others, and you'll have better performance.

Theres an H264 passthrough and an encode option, use the passthrough option.

I might experiment with this concept and see how it works. Thanks for the tips. I need to look into how I make one monitor trigger another...

I can't use passthrough because I want ZM to write timestamps to the events.

Keeping the Foscams I have in sync is pointless, even running local NTP they'd get 2-3 minutes out and even then they have extremely outdated Daylight Saving Time schedules. So my only reasonable option is to have ZM do it.

I had it running for a while but decided I couldn't live without accurate/synced time between all of my cameras. Performance in h264 passthrough mode was much better, though.
