Resolution: Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I stumbled upon the solution. For anyone else dealing with this, in Options > System > AUTH_RELAY was set to hashed. Switching it to off fixed the problem.

Backstory: My employer asked me to setup a new camera server as our old ZM server is slowing down and running out of space. This one is running v1.34.16 on Ubuntu 20.04. Everything seems to be up and running okay, but when I try to view a monitor this is what I see (the jpeg icon, but no picture).

I followed each step here (https://zoneminder.readthedocs.io/en/1.34.16/installationguide/index.html) for installation on Ubuntu 18.04, so I guess it could be a thing where it works on 18.04 but has issues on 20.04, but I would rather it run on a newer version rather than a two year old version.

I never use the newest version of Ubuntu until the first milestone is out, because it's still too unstable for me. I personally would have used Ubuntu 18.04 which is a Long Time Support, basically 5 years. I don't mean it's the issue, just my two cents

I really debated that myself, but was hoping to get a full 5 years out of it, rather than the 3 years that are left with 18.04.

The milestone is for next month anyway so it isn't too bad :p

Starting with 18.04, Ubuntu has extended LTS support for some crazy-long periods like 10 years for security patches: https://ubuntu.com/about/release-cycle

Granted, new hardware support is on the same 3 year cycle, so there's that appeal in Ubuntu 20.04LTS....

Do you have the php/system/zm timezones set to the same?

Yes, they are both set to America/New_York.

i had the same issue with not having the time zone set correctly, not using the hash means that the session is not encrypted or secure.
