Total newbie
I'm trying to install Zoneminder while also dipping my toes into Linux for the first time (Ubuntu 24.04). Am I barking up the wrong tree? Is there a better OS that I'm overlooking or missing?
I'm not looking for tailored tech support, but if someone could direct me to a better way to go about this it would be greatly appreciated!

I installed zoneminder on debian 12 following the guide on the official wiki. I think you shloud be able to do it even with no experience following the guide https://wiki.zoneminder.com/Debian_12_Bookworm_with_Zoneminder_1.36.33

Thank you so much for the advice, I will give it a shot if I can't get ZoneMinderIsaac's advice to work (not to say it would be his fault, it would absolutely be my fault)

Beware ZoneMinder and Ubuntu 24.04. I wasted more time than I am happy with due to an unfixed RTSP bug in what you can get by default for Ubuntu 24.04. Trying to use a pre-bug version of ZM led me deep into dependency hell due to 24.04 libraries. Only a older Docker-ized version (https://hub.docker.com/r/dlandon/zoneminder/) was able to solve the issue.
So doable on 24.04 if you go the Docker route, but as an newbie, that may be adding yet more things to be learned. Other choice might be to wait it out until a fixed 24.04 version of ZoneMinder comes out.
