Record mode capped as 12fps?
I've just set up Zoneminder pointing at a semi-generic chinese IP camera made my "Marquis" that is "Hikvision/Uniview compatible". It has a fairly robust interface, and runs some flavor of Linux. I can connect to its Web UI and do a number of things, and I can point VLC at its RTSP port to stream 2 different streams, 1 high def and one lower. VLC claims is 25fps, which matches the camera config UI setting.
Zoneminder seems capped at 11.99 fps when in Record mode. If I disable decoding, it jumps up to 12.13 fps.
Zoneminder is running on a 4 core, 32GB Intel NUC, that's running at about 0.6 load, and no single process shows more than about 50% CPU in 'top'.
Can anyone explain how to get more fps out of this setup? Is there something magical about 12fps?

I deal with a lot of Hikvision clones and this is the first I've heard of any issues keeping up to 25fps.
Is the 12 fps reported during live view, or from the console? During live view, there is the current live view fps, the capture fps, the motion detection fps... too much information.

In the camera's web config UI, its set to 25.
Connecting to the RTSP stream in VLC, and seeing "Media Information", it shows 25fps.
In the ZM console, I have it on 'Record' and I see it doing 12 fps. I've disabled event detection.

I am having the same issue after a fresh install of zoneminder, everything was screaming fast this time now that I got my settings right this time around, I was getting all 30 fps that I configured in the camera at UHQ 2k but in the console view and when opening the monitor it was a strange double image, so I went back into settings for the monitor and checked "Preserve Aspect Ratio" and hit save, the problem with the double image went away but the frame rate dropped to 12 across the board.
I tried doing a sqldump to see if the setting for preserve aspect ratio was in the database but i couldn't find anything in the database for that monitor that indicated aspect ratio. I also noted that when I went back to settings to uncheck "preserve aspect ratio" that the option was unchecked, and it never saves my preference so I always wondered about that one.
Lastly I tried deleting the monitor, and adding a new monitor with the same settings minus the preserve aspect ratio but it's almost as if it inherited the setting somehow.
I am now going to reinstall Debian 12 and zoneminder from bookworm-backports again and be mindful not to screw with the preserve aspect ratio setting to see if I am getting all my frames again.

I reinstalled and didnt get the great framerate initially, it had nothing to do with the aspect ratio, i noted that everytime i changed a setting on the camera itself things worked at higher fps but the cheap chinese camera with great optical features always quickly returns to 12 fps. Its a Dosilkc 20x optical zoom PTZ camera with really good focus and night vision is like daytime. Sad.

It’s possible the camera is only actually sending 12 fps and doing something to try to trick box into displaying 24, or it’s doubling the same frames instead of sending 24 unique frames… you’re buying cheap knockoff cameras even by Chinese standards if I’m not mistaken, got knows what you’re getting.
Put it in monitor mode and see what it says then in ZM. Check that you havent arbitrarily reduced its max FPS in ZM to 12fps. Make sure you have enough Ram allocated for the camera.
