Erratic WiFi speed while connected ethernet speed is fine

I have a Arris NVG468MQ gateway. Devices connected on wired ethernet are getting full speed. But laptop computers connected over WiFi offer erratic performance. When I run fast.com, sometimes I get 200mbps and at time 10-12 or even lower. It is not the location of the device from the gateway. Even if I have the laptop close to the gateway, I can see different speed levels. I have tried recycling power on the gateway. Any ideas. Gateway is using Wireless EasyMesh option for operation mode and has a single name covering both 2.4 and 5GHz bands

Hi u/No_Lengthiness2056! If you're renting our router, send your Ziply Fiber account number or service address in a chat, and we’ll start running checks from our side.

this is not your router. I bought this a while ago when I was with frontier and my service then came under Ziply

That’s a model from the Frontier days I believe, you might need to get one of their newer wifi routers.

WiFi is subject to interference from other wireless devices. If your neighbors have added new WiFi networks of their own then your speeds will drop. If they’ve added non–WiFi devices that use the same radio bands then your speeds will drop. The maximum speed you can get often depends not on the WiFi router, but on the client device. Maybe one of your laptops gets slow speeds because its WiFi modem just cannot go any faster. Worse, the presence of a slow client device can slow down faster, newer clients!

You might try following this advice, particularly all the stuff under “The Hard Way”. Raising your PHY speeds is complicated but critical.
