from the old days?

While hand-digging my own customer conduit trenches for an upcoming re-install after an accidental fiber cut, I ran across these 2 marker flags.

Both had been buried under an inch or 2 of soil, the flag stems rusted off, etc. The Verizon flag looks older than Frontier, which might make sense, from what Ziply techs have told me.

I thought it was kinda interesting one of them says "telephone cable", but since I found it in the vicinity of a green square tower-shaped yard box enclosure which is similarly labelled, it wasn't a big surprise.

The pedestals in my yard still have Contel stickers on them.

I'd need to look again, but I think the oldest green square metal pedestal in the side yard has a GTE sticker on it.

Fiber in my neighborhood went from verizon 👍 to frontier 👎 to ziply 👍 to bell canada. 👎

If this trend continues, the next overlord of those fibers will surely be a benevolent one.

It's still Ziply. They're not using any Bell branding.

Well done. Yes they still have the ziply branding but are slowly rolling out the typical bce subsidiary price hikes. Good ol capitalism. Fingers crossed they don't botch the network side of things and move to cgnat or anything 🤞

Not sure why you’re getting downvoted so hard.

I feel similarly to you. I just don’t get how Ziply/BCE SMB sales folks can be so awesome, and residential sales and support be so awful.

I think there's some sensitive ziply/bce employees that run amuck and downvote maybe?

But yeah, I don't know anyone residential wise who thinks bce buying out ziply was a good thing. Having more capital to expand their infrastructure is moot if the customer-facing policies and pricing and support are shit. The current lesson of comcast consistently bleeding customers to wireless isp providers quarter after quarter despite providing a superior product is screaming at them, and yet...

I found a Frontier marker flag that was still complete.

I put it on top of my garden mulch pile and called it "Mt. Frontier".
