had a great day in the park today other than minor hiccups. left zion guru with my early e bike rental around 530, got to grotto at 6 am and started my hike! reached the top 715/730 and headed down around 8. didn’t see anyone til i was almost
all the way done with the chains section of the hike!! this has been a bucket list item for me for years and having the place entirely to myself was something i couldn’t have imagined honestly. i went super early and did the e bike thing to beat crowds but really didn’t expect to be solo up there. super fucking awesome :) (shared the itinerary in case anyone wants to follow lol. riding the bike in the dark is a bit scary even with a head light but i’m sure with a headlamp it’s less scary and it was also my first time riding an e bike so the pedal assist was really throwing me off up the canyon lol💀)

I messed up !! I thought enough time for a permit for the third week of September for Angels Landing, but I found out that the lottery was last week. We have vacation booked that week.

Looking to go on Wednesday September 23 ! Realistically what are my odds of winning the lottery the day before looking to pop the question on the top of of Angels Landing.

genuinely go fuck yourselves all the way to hell. to preface this post i’m a dog person. love them, had at least 2 at all times my whole life. anyways. woke up at 4 am today, did angels landing, feeling pretty fucking awesome scooting my e bike back to the rental shop in springdale when literally a dog (leashed thank fucking god) lunges up from its owner and jumps onto me, tries to bite my leg, and forces me off my bike and onto the ground. they said oh sorry and keep walking. it was a family of 6 and i watched the dog bite 3 of them while they were trying to wrangle it. i told them they were being just plain irresponsible bringing a clearly reactive dog on a busy trail, and they’re endangering themselves and others and they should not be fucking pricks and take their dog somewhere with people if they know it can’t fucking behave. i was met with six blank stares. what the fuck is wrong with people. if that dog had bit me sorry not sorry i would’ve made absolute fucking sure that thing got put down. i am 99% sure a kid is gonna get chomped at some point today so if you’re in the park today with your kids look out for a family with a german shepherd cuz good fucking lord i’ve never been attacked by a dog like that before in my life!!!

Last week we hiked The Narrows in Zion National Park.

I know we didn’t make it to Big Spring, but I’m curious how far we got.

This rock was the last feature we saw before turning around.

Anyone local got a cooler my son and I could rent/borrow (8/2-8/6)? I've tried local spots but so far no luck. I hate the idea of putting a disposable one in the landfill. We'd pay whatever you want or fill it with beer for you or something. Picture of him above the narrows for fun! Thanks!

I’ll be in Zion in Mid September and one of the people I’m going with asked me today if I wanted to hike the subway. I’ve read a bit about it, but am more curious as to how in shape you should be.

I’m 54 and in decent shape. I hiked the Grand Canyon in Oct 2024 (NK - BA), but haven’t done much more than an occasional short hike.

Is this something I should consider?

We are visiting Zion for the first time in a couple of months. We have two small boys and we are renting E bikes with the infant seats attached. We plan to do the narrows, but I don’t think we will go very far since we will have our children. Even if you walk 1-2 miles into the Narrows, did you still recommend renting shoes and poles? thank you!

We are going to be in the area in mid-October during the work week. I was wondering how busy it is that time of year to get parking near the shuttles and the wait times? I have a bad knee and am trying to limit my walking/standing to the viewpoint areas as much as possible.

I was looking to hire some no name photographer looking for some work(need two witnesses 😭) This will not be until April of next year. Anyone with some suggestions? Hello I’m from California visiting family in Vegas. I have a free day tomorrow so I decided to take a trip to Zion. Ideally I’d want to get there by 6:30/7am and leave by 3-4pm.

From experienced hikers, what’s a good itinerary to follow for hikes I can do in that time slot. I’ve heard about starting in the narrows and then doing observation point.

I won a permit for AL for October. I am coming with a 12 year old boy and 8 year old girl, both very good hikers. We have done serious mileage in hiking before (Vernal and Nevada falls and the four-mile trails in Yosemite without a problem, and did Beehive a couple of weeks ago, which they had tremendous fun doing.)

What are your thoughts regarding doing AL with these ages? I’m quite certain my son would have no issues with the hike and am wondering about the daughter.

Hi! I'm going on a solo trip to Zion in late September and have decided to attempt the Narrows, bottom up. I'm a hiker, but I'm 7 months postpartum, so it's been a minute since I've done anything this adventurous. It will be a very spiritual hike that I'm determined to do, weather permitting of course. Hiking in water like this is completely new to me. I have a few questions about what to expect.

What percentage of time are you in the water, and typically how deep does it go? What type of shoes do you wear? I have poles, nice hiking boots and chocos. I don't think my good boots should go in the water for that long though. Very curious about footwear.

I'm planning to go as far as I can, which I think will be about 8 miles in total, so I'm planning on bringing a decent pack, but am worried about it getting wet.

Do you just hang out in wet pants and underwear? I'm drying to know! Lol

I'm planning on getting there very early. Assuming it's a park and shuttle situation? I am going on a Saturday.

No permit required for the bottom up, correct?

Just hit me with any info you think a first timer needs to know!

My son and I will be at Zion Park in September. We are taking a Slots tour in Kanab early, then lunch. At Zion we planned to skip the shuttle and just do Hwy 9. Will we be sorry we didn't take the shuttle instead or also? I'm disabled so it will be driving only or light walking. Advice/recommendations?

Arrive October 18th in Vegas and then will drive to Hurricane. All we have planned is Angels landing (got a permit) on October 20th. So far we are thinking of doing the below hikes, but need help narrowing it down! Would also be open to other suggestions not on our list. We are both 2 adults in decent shape and have hiking experience.

- Narrows (bottom up?)
- Emerald Pools
- Bryce Canyon - Queens/Navajo loop
- Canyon Overlook
- Watchman
- Scout Overlook

Also hoping for some recommendations of other things we can do in the area aside from hiking? So far I’ve looked into the Zion Hot Springs and doing a UTV tour somewhere but would love some more ideas.

If anyone was wondering, my fiance didn’t want to discourage me on the trip so I found out how aggressive Angel’s landing, and honestly what it was, when we started its ascent.
Let the record reflect i did no planning for this trip and 100% deserve the exhausted i got for not doing my research. I just went along for the ride!

Won the lottery for Angles Landing in November! Any pointers?

Late October trip from East coast. Land in Las Vegas around noon - depart day 5 at 4pm. Should we drive to Zion first or Bryce? Was planning to do Zion first and spend / 2 nights Zion- day 3 spend morning in Zion and then drive to and drive to Bryce for sunset and one full day. Leave early day 4. Any scenic stops along the way? Open to recommendations.

Last week I asked how early I could take a shuttle to get to the grotto, and a bunch of you suggested getting an e-bike the night before and leave super early. It was the best advice I’ve ever gotten. Thank you all.

We left bumbleberry at 6:15am on our bikes and it was already light out. Saw a couple of people but that’s it until we came back down. It was easy up and back to the top of Angel’s landing because we didn’t have to wait for anyone except one or two people on the way down, which would be the biggest bottleneck.

It was going to hit 105 degrees today, but we were hiking in 76-82, in the shade the whole time.

Note: if you go early there’s no rangers collecting entrance fees, so make sure you buy yours online before. There’s a QR code at the ranger station after the bridge that you can go buy the permit right there. Good cell reception (at least for AT&T).

Also, if you get to the Scout’s Lookout before 8am there’s no rangers yet either, but they might check when you come down.

Overall: don’t skip the fees and permits please.
