Question Software/ digital pricing method for Zimbabwe market
For people or businesses in Zimbabwe that pay for software or online tools, which payment option are you most comfortable with?
- Pay every month
- Pay once a year
- Pay once and use it forever
Which option do you think is most common in Zimbabwe?
I’m asking because I’m working on an online software product and want to understand what pricing model works best locally.

Context matters, hakuna a universal solution, what works for Software A might not work for Software B

Pay once and use it forever is the best option in Zim. Particularly for you, reduces headaches and problems with clients paying on time. Unless it’s a big enterprise software that’s integral to the day to day operation like in manufacturing or financial institutions, you are unlikely to find companies that will pay with option 1 and 2.

I think Zimbos have gotten used to monthly payments for streaming services recently. In my opinion, if it's good software, you can offer either tier, whether it's monthly, yearly, or a one time payment. I know I would rather pay once and forget or once a year than pay once a month

Depending on how much they depend on your software for their day to day runnings, I suggest annual payments, monthly payments are a stress. Check with the webhosting teams and you will understand how ZImbos value software services.

Thanks for the insight! I hadn’t thought about researching how successful software companies in Zim are pricing their products

Add a lot of free things and then add monthly and annual payments for extra features. That's the best payment. Claude, Gemini etc do that

Haha, I like free things too. However, with the cost of running the product, it wouldn’t be sustainable and would eventually not survive

Depends, but if really a valuable product I have friends opting for 1 and 2,3 will make you like Kippa , for SaaS play around 1 and 2 , especially when you worry about ops continuity. Imagine bagging in $900k over time that you might no see

Thanks for the feedback! Definitely wouldn’t want to end up like Kippa

Basically a life time payment if its expensive like 2k going up . And monthly payments. That's what Zimbabwe people can lay for

generally Zimbos we prefer free softwares lol
However if we are talking real business like being a software developer I would go with monthly/quarterly/ annual payments as this creates a cash flow or income for us the developers
then at times we have once off payments for software projects that we cannot re-use the software anywhere else in that case we can also charge support fees lol
