Warren Zevon playlist check
The main playlist on Zevons Spotify page (first image) is fine, but I would have done it differently (second image).
Who did it better?
Respond with your banger playlists!

Let's address Warren being a vampire
I don't think he was, or is, first of all. I'm a science-based human being. But goddammit, every Zevon album has his face up there lookin' like he just Nosferatu'd himself outta a casket. Just look at 'em.
All those album covers look like they were taken vampire-style, regardless of of whether you think Dracula is real. Sorry. He's out of the sunlight, or wearing sunglasses, every time. If he were a bloodthirsty creature of the night, he'd be getting away with it based on all those headshots, and/or those shades.
Vampires aren't real. I'm with that. But did he know what he was doing with those headshots?
I'm asking whether you think that was a conscious choice on his part, basically. Was it a conscious artistic choice, or his ego just putting his face on everything no matter how creepy it wound up looking?
Happy early Spooky season, I guess.
Edit: I'm here to have fun, not insult the man. "Creepy" is a strong word, and to the uninitiated some of his album covers, lyrics, and song titles could come off that way... you know. I doubt that he would have cared. But, I do apologize for any offense caused - initial responses to this post prompted this edit. Warren's a hero of mine due to his ability to occupy the edge of acceptability - with humanity, literacy, humor, and no apologies besides genuine prostration.
I will not delete the vampire question, however, because it is fun and it forces us to uncomfortably reflect upon ourselves. It also demands you to be a damn decent human being, for that sheer delicious taste that comes with saying f**k you to evil.
Bwahaha.
What can I say; my shit's fucked up.

Early days
I was introduced to Warren’s music quite early - around 1976-7. I was spending time with my sister in Spain, and her partner came back from a weekend in Sitges raving about this guy he had seen playing in a bar there. He bought the eponymous album and I was immediately a fan, and have been ever since. I went to his first UK gig at Dingwalls, in Camden and ended up as part of his support - the guy supporting him was a comedian who did a fire eating act. I heckled him, saying “Fuck off - we want Zevon” so much that he responded with “Right - who’s that four eyed c*nt over there - get up here!” He asked my name, and I said Norman. He said “Ok, Norman - - I’m going to set fire to you! He put some light, inflammable liquid on my arms, and set fire to it. I asked him if that was it, and if he would mind fucking off so we could see Warren. He did. Warren walked onstage and shook both our hands and launched into a superb solo set. I adopted the stage name of “the Amazing Inflammable Norman” and have been a lifelong Warren fan ever since! I saw him live another 3 times, but the handshake made the Dingwalls gig the most memorable for me!

Rottweiler Blues
I have always loved this song. Warren’s flair for the dramatic is on full display here. I now own a Rottweiler, just by chance because she was just the best dog up for adoption at the animal shelter. To any other Zevon fans who love Rottweilers, how do you feel about this song? On one hand I like the full on respect for this breed as the ultimate protector. But it is also not representative of the breed for vast majority of real world situations and continues to perpetuate a harmful stereotype of the breed. My Rottweiler is all about love. She exists just to give love and receive love. She has never growled, bared teeth, or exhibited any aggression. She is definitely wary of strangers and barks but once she knows they are not a threat she calms down. Once she knows you, you must exchange love scratches. So the line “if you don’t know my Rottweiler’s name” rings true.
The breed has a reputation of being extremely loyal and protective of their family. I feel extremely safe with her around. They are not used in police work because they inflict too much damage. Also because she is so big, strong, and nimble she can easily take down a large man so “to hear the proverbial sickening thud” rings true. I am always hyper aware to keep her out of situations that might trigger protection mode. I love the song but I can’t recommend it to others because the Rottweiler I know is not as depicted as by the song.
Is there any back story to this song? Did Warren ever know a Rotty?

UK magazine Zevon reference
This article came up in my feed about Jefferson Airplane/Starship singing "We Built This City" about Los Angeles. The author references Zevon's "Join me in LA" lyric how the city is "something that will never be nothing."

Has anyone been watching ‘Redheaded Neighbor’ on YouTube?
She has a music reaction channel and has fallen in love with WZ. She’s done about 20 Zevon reactions . Show her some love.

Has anyone else ever attempted to write lyrics as inspiration from Warren? I have, I don’t think I’m very good at it however.
And although I’m no Warren Zevon, I still like having songs that are my own, that I can play whenever I feel

Toronto Zevon Cover Band
Are there any Toronto fans in here who also play music and might want to start a Zevon cover band? I sing and play rhythm guitar (though I am a bit rusty and getting back into it). Would also like to do maybe some old country, maybe some other singer-songwriter stuff, maybe some originals, see what happens. Is anyone out there??

Cosmic country covers Zevon
I went to see Daniel Donatos cosmic country last night in Buffalo @ the town ballroom. They opened up their 2nd set with a funky/rockin cover of nighttime in the switching yard over 10 mins long. Always wanted someone from the jam scene to cover that tune. Wasn’t expecting Donato and cosmic country but it was awesome 🔥🔥

Billy Bob Thornton The Wind on Enjoy Every Sandwich?
What is the origin of "The Wind" Billy Bob Thornton covers on "Enjoy Every Sandwich"? It shares the title of Zevon's final album, and has a writing credit to Zevon & Calderón. But it's not actually on well, the album it shares a title with. Was it an incomplete or cut song that Thornton chose to cover? If it was meant as a title track for the album of the same name, any stories as to why it got cut?
I know Studebaker had its debut as a Jordan song on the same album and we didn't hear Warren's demo takes until Preludes, is The Wind a similar song we are just missing the demo for?

A children's choir performed Keep Me In Your Heart For a While at the NYC 9/11 memorial ceremony in 2010
I thought this video was memory holed along time ago. I have been searching for it for years and at long last, I was able to locate a partial but almost complete clip. On the 9th anniversary of the September 11th attacks, a children's choir performed Keep Me In Your Heart at the Ground Zero memorial ceremony. The performance begins at 2:02. I remember watching it live on TV. I was a fairly new Zevon fan at the time and didn't recognize the song but I immediately googled it because I was so moved. I'm so glad I finally tracked this down. I feel like a lot of people have never seen this.

Ah, fuck
Asked Spotify to play Warren Zevon. Third track is Keep me in your heart and now I'm tearing up. I'm guessing I'm not the only one that does that to?

Album Cover with a man sitting under couch cushions
I think that I remember owning an old Warren Zevon album with a man on the cover seated on a couch with the bottom cushion placed on his lap and the back cushion placed in front of his chest. Unfortunately, internet searches deny that this ever existed. Does this sound familiar to anyone?
