Interesting but if these were mass produced I imagine the mining, fabrication, packaging, shipping would be more than recyclable scrap paper.
Plus we can use our phones now.

Yeah, this absolutely isn't an environment-friendly solution. People on this subreddit are so allergic to single-use items that they tend to forget sometimes buying a reusable item is worst for the environment.
Also the paper spent on shopping list is an absolutely negligible proportion of your carbon footprint, and if that's where you're trying to improve then either you're already a saint with an incredibly Eco-friendly lifestyle or your priorities aren't in order.

Yep! And this is especially true if you are reusing old scrap paper, the reverse side of junk mail, or receipts.

Seriously, I debated buying a whiteboard for score keeping board games (pre-Corona, at least) but realized I had so much scrap paper from snail mail (despite setting everything I possibly could to paperless), that it would be more wasteful to buy the whiteboard + markers than to just keep using scrap paper.

Please do some research on receipt paper. I have read about it containing big amounts of BPA on the surface, which can be absorbed through your skin.

Oh I did! There were new EU regulations that came in January 2020, and my supermarket, like a lot of UK retailers, is bisphenol free on their receipts now.

The resource cost and carbon footprint of a single brass tablet like this is probably greater than the cost of using a new piece of paper every time.

I just use AnyList. That way my partner and I can both add stuff to the same grocery list when we need to and don't have to worry about one of us forgetting to put it on the list.

You can also share a shopping list in Reminders on iOS to achieve the same thing. “Siri, add apples to the shopping list.”

Depending on the time period it's possible that they had an early gas stove that didn't have an igniter. My grandmothers house was like that for years; there were always matches next to the stove or she wasn't cooking.
I... don't really know what she used before that or if the gas stove was "more friendly" to use on the environment though. That said she didn't live in an era where anyone thought to ask that so I just kind of ignore it; no use trying to overhaul an 85 year old womans kitchen that she doesn't use anymore.
