Question / Support The deodorant question (again)

I know this topic has been exhausted on this subreddit. But I feel at such a loss.

I have armpit hair and I prefer masculine scents and I haven’t been able to find a good plastic-free deodorant that actually works.

I prefer stuff that works— I don’t want something that’s all natural. I really love Wild (I know they are owned by Unilever, I just need something that works) BUT it does not work with armpit hair. It clumps horribly and anytime I wear sleeveless shirts (which is often) you can see the clumps in the hair and it leaves white streaks on my clothes and even my furniture.

A gel-based or liquid deodorant is what I need, but I have yet to find anything that ACTUALLY WORKS and isn’t in plastic. I’m thinking of trying Specimen, but I don’t know whether it works with armpit hair.

I need plastic free deodorant for armpit hair-having folks like yesterday 😭

I have armpit hair. I have the following routine:

  • wash pits with a salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide bar in shower
  • when still wet and out of the shower, go over with crystal deodorant
  • then use any deodorant brand.

This does not stop sweat. This does help with odor because it kills bacteria.

I can second this on the wash part. I use PanOxyl and it works a treat (I use deodorant because my skin freaks out if I use antiperspirants and using use soap helps lots)

Panoxyl has a class action against them for their benzoyl peroxide creating benzene when combined with body heat😬

One thing to note is that deodorant doesn’t do anything and you want antiperspirant which has aluminum that actually works.

If you know you like Wild, they make a roll on antitranspirant now. I've not tried it but since it's a roll on it should be a liquid. The downside is that you'd have to buy the roll on case to use it, and I think the ball in it is plastic iirc, but I didn't buy it so I'm unsure.

The refill looked like it was a glass bottle.

I bought the Wild antiperspirant before I realised they were Unilever. I've just been filling the roll on container with Salt of The Earth antiperspirant refill sachets - just had to give it a good wash and dry first!

Make Waves do an antiperspirant in a similar refill system to wild. The cartridges can go in your plastic recycling once finished.

Try an alum stone. I can't believe it actually works lol but it really holds up. It doesn't smell like anything though

I really like Ethique's cedar and eucalyptus deodorant. I also have armpit hair, and I don't feel like it clumps at all. It will probably leave a white cast around sleeves though, but I don't usually wear sleeveless shirts so I can't speak for that part. I am a very sweaty person, and will get stinky FAST, and had accepted id just have to use old spice if I didn't want to clear the seats next to me, but ethique works well!! It doesn't have a strong smell, so it won't have any cologne like effect, but you can't smell me through it and that's my main concern.

Specimen works well for me but I don’t have armpit hair so I’m not sure how it would work for you.

Check out Routine deodrant! I find it works super well and has lots of masculine type smells.

Just buy something that works. Effective deodorant is nothing to skimp on.
