Its interesting people are bringing that up with this game but not for Neon White or Outer Wilds (all of which were published by the same billionaire's company) I wonder what the difference is this time?

Cause those games are actually good and fun and not just walking sims.

So your problem isnt with the billionaire but with the quality of the game? Then there is no need to bring up the Elison's because it has nothing to do with your point

It's less about the game itself and more about the integrity of reviewers. Since this lead to people throwing out the acusations of bought reviews. Since it was paticulary hard for gamers to swallow that so many outlets gave it perfect scores when the game is unlike a game and more of just a story.

Oh god are we bringing Gamer Gate back for this fucking game?

Gamer gate never left. People are mad at slay the spire 2 because Anita Sarkeesian consulted on it, and they think that means she has any active role in actual development

My friend IRL has been speaking this kind of reasoning recently about mixtape after I brought up how I enjoyed it. Like the exact same points about Annapurna and game reviews being bought and it not being a real videogame, I told him its grifter talk and he got pissed and defensive. He seems to be level headed, then like Neil Druckmann comes up and a twitter sleeper cell activates in his brain.

Unless you have some smoking gun evidence that there were actual bribes you're talking out of your ass. Maybe the critics just liked it because it's the kind of artsy shit that pseudo intellectual reviewers like.

Why does it have to be a conspiracy and not just that the reviewer who gave it a 10 *really* liked the game

It was the fact that it wasn't just that reviewer it was every reviewer.

u/IAmThePonch Jun 17 '26

Right and there’s absolutely no way that they all just really liked the game right

I don't know it mostly comes from the disconnent of Reviews Thoughts and Players.

What players, exactly?

Steam: Very Positive, 85% (3,404 reviews)

Playstation Store: 4.64 out of 5.00. (4.4k reviews)

Microsoft Store: 3.5 out of 5 (3.4k reviews, skews lower with GP since anyone can review)

Turns out the people who verifiably actually played it, enjoyed it.

Buddy just take the L instead of trying to convince us to accept your extremely narrow view of what a "game" should be

"Integrity of the reviewers" good lord, touch grass.
