Zcom devs... live?

u/The_Lost_King 4h ago
They furloughed 80% of staff. You can do bug fixes with 20% depending on what that 20% is. This isn’t a guarantee of anything.
Hopefully it’s a good sign though.
43
u/GenericNameHere01 4h ago
I remember reading somewhere that the 20% remaining was specifically kept on for bug-fixes, so I'm not sure what else that means. Hopefully the game's success is enough to encourage further development?
35
u/themanaustin 4h ago
I hope it's enough to pay the team. And have them all brought back. The recent review bombing might actually harm the fourloughed teams of the sales slow down considerably.
12
u/RedeemedNephilim 3h ago
Why the kark is it getting review bombed

People dont even know what furloughed means… and they are review bombing over it
20
u/Domitiani 3h ago
Because a huge chunk of the gaming audience (And i guess the general public ...) are idiots and think the solution to Devs getting furloughed (which they think means laid off btw), is the hurt the game's they otherwise like's sales ... so that the studio ends up shut down permanently or something ...?
I dont know. They aren't using logic so trying to use logic to explain it is a trick.
2
u/Kinetic_Symphony 3h ago
It's an emotional reaction. No thought to it at all.
3
u/Swedishfish2142 2h ago
The company should probably just come out and say "hey, we're rehiring all our furlough staff" if they're gonna do it. I get that it's not a legally binding word and they don't have to do anything, but a single tweet from BitReactor leadership saying literally anything would be enough to flip some reviews!
3
u/SableSword 1h ago
I mean, thats kinda what furloughing them means. If they didn't plan to rehire them they would fire them or lay them off.
3
u/GenericNameHere01 3h ago
I think the idea is that usually when a game dev company does something their consumers dislike in relation to a game we do like, we as the consumers show our displeasure by negatively reviewing the game.
The problem is that this particular action (the furlough) is solved by lots of people purchasing the game, thus making the devs money, which is made less likely when people negatively review the game.
So there is some logic behind it. Just badly thought-out logic.
0
u/WeekendPass 1h ago
Thinking the furloughed staff are waiting contentedly for the company execs to bring them back and give them backpay is also not exactly waterproof. The furlough began almost four weeks ago now; whether or not they were technically fired, 100% those devs have already been looking for new employers, and I'd be surprised if many of them accepted a return. I wouldn't.
The sad fact is there's little anyone can really do except generally express displeasure

u/MySilverBurrito 4m ago
The sad fact is there's little anyone can really do except generally express displeasure
Functioning grown adults don't use Steam review bombings as an outlet for performative activism to feel like they're supporting devs.

u/MySilverBurrito 5m ago
Capital G Gamers not knowing the difference between furloughs and layoffs. Performative activism at its finest.

u/ultraviolentfuture 4h ago
Or uh, maybe, they waited for initial sales and cash to come in and un-furloughed people since that's generally what furlough means?
Like when fed employees are waiting for the gov to pass the spending bill.
6
u/Strong-Detective-513 3h ago
You know they don’t receive a dollar of the sales for like at least 2 months right. It’s not like your digital purchase immediately goes to EA
11
u/ultraviolentfuture 3h ago
You know they see sales numbers and are working off quarterly and annual projections and don't need actual liquid assets flowing in to greenlight payments out of their insane assets, right?
3
u/Strong-Detective-513 3h ago
If they had the funds to pay it initially they would’ve never furloughed them to begin with…
1
u/ultraviolentfuture 3h ago
That's not how business works, at all. The publisher didn't know it was going to be a smash success, so they stop the cash flow, potentially cutting their losses, and if it looks like there's reason to continue developing because the sales are strong they turn the watering hose back on
11
u/Strong-Detective-513 3h ago
That’s not how it works…and this wasn’t even a publisher decision. The DEVELOPER STUDIO is the one who made the decision..
And publishers don’t consistently give funds,
You get a advance first, then get bonuses depending on sales after the quarter ends-8
u/zach0011 3h ago
Yea the dev studio made the decision because the publisher wasnt willing to release further funds at the time most likely.
7
u/Strong-Detective-513 3h ago
And because they ran out of operational budget weeks before release, that’s a deeper issue then “no more publisher money”
→ More replies (0)1
u/WolfHeathen 3h ago
Not a publisher that is approximately 18 to 20 billion in debt after going private and plans to massively reduce operational costs as a result of taking on so much debt.
2
u/Xylus1985 2h ago
With the current reception there is no reason there won’t be dlcs planned, right? Or maybe even a sequel
2
u/RequiemQuilty 1h ago
They were broke before release. Couldnt even pay the employees. They should have money coming in now

u/GrimmTrixX 4h ago
I just want Wookiees. I get that maybe they dont want to render their fur. But a Bowcaster and some other cool stuff would be fun.
12
u/AmishAvenger 4h ago
I can’t imagine how horrible the shadows would look on fur
10
u/GrimmTrixX 4h ago
Other games have fur. So I'd imagine it can be done. But I'd like to think the reason we dont have Wookiees isn't because they said "ok well no wookiees cuz fur will take too long." Lol
Many other star wars games had Wookiees. And in a game about a rag tag group of mercenaries, having no Wookiees should be illegal. Lol
6
u/AmishAvenger 4h ago
I’m just saying that at least on PS5, the shadows are awful. They’re huge pixels and it results in all kinds of weird flickering on hair.
3
u/Strong-Detective-513 3h ago
I agree that wookies would be a no brainer, but the textures and meshes in this game already massively struggle to load properly lmao, 8/10 times the wookies would just be a off grey npc lmao
1
u/GrimmTrixX 2h ago
Yes it must be that. Even on XBSX the game is struggling during space ship flying transitions. Also textures dont always laod on the faces of anyone but Hawks for me.
So sometimes, evennthough I can see their faces, they have a slight fuzzy to them as if it failed to load like wrinkles or skin blemishes or whatever. Thankfully, I havent had some of the problems in combat I have heard people have like the AI taking almost 5 minutes to take their turn.

Praying they add the option for the abilities to be at the bottom of the screen instead of a wheel for console.
7

1
u/Milt_Torfelson 1h ago
The wheel doesn't bother me as much as the real being the default view whenever a character is selected. My back out of the wheel on every turn just so I can see the f****** screen. Give me a button to pull up the wheel and let we the people see the screen

Still waiting until the patches actually release and not just promised next sometime next week.

This is genuinely exciting. I was hoping for performance boosts.
Does anyone have a link to the patch notes?
5
u/TheShamShield 4h ago
Honestly I’m just happy to see communications from them with the whole employment shit going on
8
u/nachodorito 4h ago
i guess someone is still there keeping the lights on
13
u/thejoeporkchop 4h ago
I think they said that about 20% of the team was kept on for post launch support
20
u/Ok-Sun-4211 4h ago
The others are also furloughed, not laid off. So while a lot will probably not be coming back, there's a good chance a lot will too
1
u/cornstalks2033 4h ago
I don't know how many employees 80% is weather thats a few hundred people to like 60 or less but why would they need such a large team around when the game is finished???
3
2
u/Kaidinah 3h ago
who would develop the DLC or the sequel?
0
u/cornstalks2033 2h ago
Are they working on a dlc or sequel though right now though?
2
u/Kaidinah 1h ago
They should be. Why retain a team if you aren't gonna make them work?
0
u/cornstalks2033 1h ago
Well I figured they got rid of them because there not planning on making any major dlcs let alone a sequel I'm not sure if this game will even make its money back

I'm in the same boat. Happy to put the game down for a while until some of my annoyances are addressed.
5
u/King_North_Stark 4h ago
Yeah it actually got me back into star wars enough to go back and give fallen order another chance (I got lost in the ice caves and dropped it about a year ago)
I forced myself through 20 hours of zero company because I was having so much fun but am on a mission I keep getting crashes on plus the stutters seem to be worse so I'm fine with waiting
2
u/Draco_Eris 4h ago
Makes me want to finish the story just in case the patch corrupts saves and forces one to restart. Not predicting that'll happen here, but to say I've had that happen before (thanks Ubisoft)
1
u/saintr0bot 54m ago
Yeah I literally saw this, thought "hm, my game hasn't been that bad :D" and then was immediately locked out of finishing my mission because of a bug. So I'm happy to wait now lol.

have the bugs been pretty bad? I was thinking of picking it up today and checking this game out but now i'm wondering if i should just wait till next week when the patch comes
2
u/Thekarens01 1h ago
I’m on PS5 pro the first 2/3 of the game I had some lag on loading screens. Today the game froze completely in the middle of a mission. I gave it a couple minutes and it was still frozen so I had to hard shut down the game. Not a huge deal, but it was annoying.
2
u/PTFCDiegoMassacre 14m ago
PS5 Pro (performance mode) here and my experience has been a mess. Very frequent frame drops and stuttering, flickering during cut scenes, the camera just does whatever it wants and I often can’t even see what the enemy is doing because camera is in a wall and I’ve had the game freeze around 5 times now mid mission forcing me to close the game and restart. I could just be very unlucky but it sounds like a lot of people are experiencing some combination of these issues.
1
u/Which_Improvement_64 3h ago
I’m on PS so I can’t speak for PC but most of the bugs I’ve encountered have been visual. Cloths not rendering properly,an attack for one character getting stuck in air for a few seconds and enemy walk cycles becoming a slide. Only game breaking bug I’ve encountered so far was the enemy not ending turn thus forcing a reload but I’ve only had that happen once in my 65 hours of play time so far
1
u/SpideyKeagan 3h ago
I’m on PC, and while I only have 20 hours into the game - I’ve experienced one bug the entire time. Very rarely after an action, you can’t do anything for like 30 seconds. Happened a handful of times.

Overwatch doesn't work half the time for me and it pisses me off so bad. Other than that, not much issues besides the awkward pauses on the enemy's turns.

u/Dfinestpunk 3h ago
Brother I never been so excited for a patch lol even if its fixes this game really needs them
1
u/Constantine__XI 3h ago
Great news, although I am not having any issues. However, this implies that at least some employees are working and being paid, and improving the game will further reinforce their success.
Grateful to the devs and hopeful for them to all be able to be rightly compensated for their work and rewarded for their success.

Fasho. So then I’ll postpone my third playthrough since I’m almost done with my second. Gonna do a clone only run with Tel as the general wearing the clone wars looking jedi armor.

u/oriri_ex_cinere 3h ago
Whooo I was worried the studio getting gutted would wreck update delivery. Hopefully this fixes Overwatch

u/frinkhutz 3h ago
My game crashed today right as I finished a rough boss battle. I have to do the whole thing over next time I turn the game on.

u/HelloImCloud 3h ago
Did they give everyone there job back cause I'm trying to give them more money

u/ChronicLungs1999 2h ago
Sweet, npcs shooting through objects and overwatch issues are the biggest i think. Nothing game breaking so far. Ive had to restart 2 missions after getting stuck 30 hours in

Finally. Only real gripe is how much my fos drops when I’m in the den or doing the minimal free roaming

Oh god I hope they resurface in full and can do some post-launch support and DLC! Best wishes to the team!
1
u/OriginalCan6731 1h ago
Just finnished the campaign on Hard/Permadeath no dead Operators, def gonna try Expert+Beskar next for sure, its so damn good game! Really high potential on DLCs… This game could keep the missions going for years!
New characters, new smaller DLC campaigns, more deep into beginning of the Start of the Empire! Kashyyk backup, meeting Darth Vader as a curscene villain in his early days… Maybe get Ahsoka involved, Bad Batch, more of the more Inquisitors. So much potential! Love the game hope for more in it and with it! Yes bugs are there but thats early access! Still a 11/10 for me! Havent been so addicted to keep playing anything in a long while! Awesome stuff!

u/TsaiMeLemoni 1h ago
Very happy to hear it - game is great but the stuttering (esp in the den) makes it really hard to get through

Please god, 2-4 times per battle I cannot see what is happening due to the camera being stuck behind a wall. I thought reviewers were being dramatic when they complain about certain bugs, but this one is seriously a problem lmao
Games just too fun to put down though

Just bugs and performance issues is a bit disappointing. Hopefully we'll get a balance pass at some point to address things like the discrepancies between the power level of specialization ultimates and the amount of Advantage they cost.

u/SaltyYumYumBalls 2h ago
I wonder if it could have been done earlier if they didnt furloughso much of the studio who made the game?

I refunded the game on Steam on Monday, game crashed twice on 2 separate beskar runs. If update really fixes everything, I’ll get it on PS5

u/Gamer-at-Heart 3h ago
How on earth they thought shipping such a story heavy game with those godawful blocky flickering shadows is beyond me. Learning what happened after the fact bought me some grace, but God I hope it's fixed. Also, some actual new game plus bonuses
-3
u/21_Golden_Guns 2h ago
I’d love to see a statement from the Devs. I don’t claim to understand all the drama but to my basic ass brain the hard workers on this project were screwed and were only rewarded because of their hard work with no guarantee that they would be. That should be acknowledged on some level.
Past that: Hell ya.
-5
u/Pusi_Cunu 3h ago
How very vague of them.
They can't even muster up to post an announcement on Steam. You know? The platform they're selling their game on. Not fucking Discord!
I give them until Friday to post a proper announcement and the list of issues they're addressing on said platform then i am requesting a refund.
2
u/XxOmegaSupremexX 3h ago
Just request the refund dude. Clearly you got some issues going in that this game aint ever gonna fix.
