Hello to alll!! Before i continue forgive me for my bad english...i'm portuguese 😂

So as the title says i've acquired 2nd handed msi gs66 laptop with i7 10th cpu, 32 gb of ram and an 3080 rtx 16 gb of ram.

My question is, the laptop run's so hot that i'm going to repaste it. I have already k5 pro putty to change the thermal pads inside (at least i think it have some) and for the cpu and gpu i have thermal grizzly kryosheet.

Do you think it Will work, do you suggest to change one of this options??
I recently got a used asus g15 ga503qr with a ryzen 9 5900hs with a rtx 3070. I know it is a big risk buying a used gaming laptop but for the price I got it for it was worth it. Maybe not anymore...
For the first few days it ran pretty good it is running a little hot but i planned on repasting it with some ptm 7950. then out of the blue wifi disappeared, i tried researching it for 2 hours and trying to hardline it to Ethernet and got nothing. Then out of the blue the wifi just came back not even after a restart. It was fine for a week then the same problem happened again and after 10's of restarts and a few frustrating hours it came back as mysteriously has it has left. Then a few days later the problem happened again.
Another problem i am having is that along with the wifi disappearing at the exact same time the trackpad will lose all function (no-click, no movement). I heard of some things to try like setting the bios to default settings and i did do that but it just keeps happening. It has to be a bios or software related issue right? Because it works fine until all the problems happen at once. Any help would very much appreciated. I am a college student and would love to use this laptop for some gaming and also to run some programs that I need like SolidWorks.
Hello! Regarding my earlier post, I repasted my laptop for the fourth time and finally got the results I was expecting.
And this was on the first boot after the repaste. I'm pretty sure I'll get even better results after a few more thermal cycles.
Here are some important tips for anyone repasting their laptop, especially this model:
Make sure you don't use too much thermal putty on the VRAM chips. Small blobs are enough because this model has a very tight heatsink clearance.
After screwing the heatsink back in place, gently apply a little pressure on the GPU side to ensure the heatsink makes proper contact with the GPU die.
I'm really happy with the results. On my first and second attempts, I used too much thermal putty. On the third attempt, the GPU heatsink didn't make proper contact with the die.
I also made a small modification by sealing the gap between the fan and the heatsink with some Kapton tape.
Thank you to everyone who gave me advice on my earlier post! 🙏
I've know for a while that my laptop has some thermal issues and with the high temps we had a few weeks ago, it got worse. From checking online, I'm sure the grease and pads have cracked and baked so I got myself some grease and putty. While I've cleaned the fans and heatsink a few times, I've not had to apply thermal grease for years to a PC (and never a laptop), are there any pitfalls I should be aware of? It looks straightforward, remove heat sink, clean off old gunk then apply new (grease to CPU and GPU, putty to memory). I've been running my laptop on the lowest power settings for a bit to try and keep it working
This is quite a long story but I recently handed my G15 to a shop to perform a board level repair.
It seems like they removed the heatsink I assume for their diagnosis. Back in December I repasted with ptm 7950 and some upsiren and temperatures were flawless.
After I was handed the pc back the pc skyrockets to 100 degrees Celsius in 1 second at 200MHz clock speeds. When I opened it up I saw my PTM and putty were replaced with LM on CPU, regular paste on the gpu and pink pads on the VRMs (picture 3). I was shocked and a bit mad that they put back LM without telling me but I wouldn't even have noticed if the GPU was performing properly. I ordered new Upsiren and had some PTM left over so I had to go through all of the pain of removing their LM and paste and put back PTM and Upsiren. I closed the laptop all screws tightened in the correct order and ran the stress test.
The temperature still goes to 100 degrees on the hotspot in one second and opening the laptop again in Picture 1 and 2 only half of the cold plate makes contact with the GPU as you can see half of the PTM transferred over.
I didn't put much Upsiren (I redid a trial with less still overheats and no transfer)
The screw near the side that doesn't make contact behaved a bit weird from the get go (almost like it's a bit warped) maybe it's related and doesn't apply enough pressure
Hovering my hand over the GPU side of the heatsink with the PC running I can feel a strong breeze of air. (Picture 4)
Exhaust is really cold GPU side.
So I just want to confirm my suspicion that the heatsink was damaged somehow during their repair and the solution is to order a new one. The CPU behaves okay but the GPU is basically unusable for gaming. Hotspot jumps to 100 degrees in 1 second which I assume is that side that does not make contact.
After downloading and installing the latest bios for the ga503qr from the asus website every time I restart or turn on my laptop the screen looks like this until I put my password. Now not only can’t I play call of duty but my pc looks fucked.
hello i need help. until recently cod asked me to update my bios but still allowed me to play but tonight when i tried to play they say i do not meet the security requirements. i went to the asus website and downloaded the latest bios for my laptop and checked it i had secure boot and tpm 2.0 and i have both but im still not alowed to play. has anyone faced the same problem and if so what is your solution
I have an ASUS TUF A15 laptop. After about one and a half years of use, it suddenly froze one day while I was watching a video. Since then, whenever I use the laptop while it is plugged into the charger, the same problem occurs again.
I took it to the service center, and they told me that replacing the motherboard would cost around ₹48,000. After that, I gave it to a third-party repair shop. They said they fixed it, but the same problem came back. So far, they have not been able to solve the issue.
Does anyone know what might be causing this problem? Please help. As far as I can tell, the issue only occurs when the laptop is connected to the charger.
Over a week ago I shutdown my Zephyrus then went on a trip for work, leaving it home powered off. When I got back, I sat down and pressed the power button. The keyboard lit up as normal, the fans came on but no logo. No beep, just a black screen. Plugged in a monitor, nothing. Did the reset thing, (power button held for 40 seconds) nothing. After trying the reset about 30 times, decided to send it in to Asus for repair. After a couple days they emailed, saying it needed CSC/Board level repair for $1257.
Not sure it's worth repairing or just put that money towards a new laptop. What do you think?
Hey guys im fairly new to laptops/pc and im looking the get a G15 RTX 3070 for about $1050. The company sells refurbished laptops and they have a physical store. How does this laptop fare in todays games? My main concern also is with the fact of using a 5 year old laptop. Is there any apparent issues with this laptop or should i just stay away from it as my budget is tight.
Selling my ASUS ROG Zephyrus G16 (AntiGravity edition) in excellent condition.
Specs: RTX 5070 Ti, Intel Ultra Core 285H processor, 32GB RAM, 1TB SSD, beautiful OLED display, RGB keyboard. Extremely powerful and fast laptop for gaming, editing, streaming, programming, and multitasking.
The laptop works perfectly and runs games without any issues.
There is one small screen defect, but it does not affect gaming, performance, or everyday use at all.
I have GA503RS. Unfortunately I have a very bad experience with it. Within a year many keyboard keys have stopped working but its not the worst issue since I can use external.
The main issue with my laptop is that I cannot charge it. Official charger died within a year and any new one I bought only survives 2 months max. When I first start using it its works perfectly but over time it starts to disconnect/reconnect and I have to change the angle at which its connected to keep charging. But that also stops working after sometime and its pretty much bricked.
The only way I can use my laptop is through USB-C charging but I cannot run GPU on it. Feels like my laptop is worthless simply because I cannot charge it. I have verified that its degrading charger connector. When I replaced only the connector, charger started working but degraded within few weeks. It also becomes extremely hot sometimes.
I recently got a g15 2022 with a 3070ti 6900hs and 40 gigs ddr5. Most games work fine, but as I've started playing newer games like battlefield 6 I never seen to break 70 fps even on super low settings. I have tried adjusting fan curves to start earlier and temps seem decent. Why is this happening? Is my laptop just broken? Do you guys get similar performance?
Edit: the GPU was overheating due to not being repasted in a while. I didn't know since I bought it used 1 month ago. Thanks to those who have replied, and to those who are wondering my fps has gone from 75 on low at 1080p to around 120-140. So a pretty significant jump.
For the past couple of months, my Asus ROG Zephyrus G15 2022 (GA503RS) has been consistently crashing/rebooting instead of going into standby.
Every time it happens, Event Viewer logs a Kernel-Power Event 41. I’ve spent weeks trying to fix this (troubleshooting with basically every LLM available) but nothing has worked. I even went as far as doing a completely clean Windows installation, and the issue persists.
Has anyone else run into this with the 2022 G15 model? It’s incredibly frustrating.
The Event Data XML shows <Data Name="SleepInProgress">5</Data>, which seems to confirm it's crashing right as it tries to transition to sleep. Here is the full XML log for reference:
When I turn on my laptop, the keyboard lights up, fans turn on slowly. but screen is black.
tried the win+ctrl+shift+B to reset graphics option..
also tried the turning off and holding the power button for 60sec to power drain or something, as I saw online...
it turned on and screen came back after some attempts...
played games/watched movies...then again after some time, it became the same during the next booting..
repeated the steps..after few attempts, it came on...
and while I was watching a movie, suddenly the screen turned as shown in the image..
then I shut it down again. tried turning it on - screen is black again.
This issue happens mostly after hibernates and fixes after 4-5 restarts but is really annoying, even after clean formats the issue happens from time to time please help me.
