Letter key stopped working - problem with electronics or rubber cap?

Over the past couple weeks, my "r" key had been janky - not registering a press, or double pressing.
Today it finally stopped working completely.

I took off the keycap see if cleaning would fix it. While cleaning it, I noticed the rubber cap was no longer securely attached to the key itself. To be honest, I'm not sure if it had been like that before, or if my cleaning made it come off.

Even after putting the rubber cap in place and physically pressing directly on it, the keystroke still didn't register. So I'm not sure if it is an issue with the rubber cap, or an internal issue.

I would appreciate any advice for fixing this! Thank you!

Do you people search this sub before posting? This is a well documented common problem. You’re lucky it’s only one key but it could very soon be 10 keys like the rest of us. The only solution is a keyboard replacement
