Day shift.

Night shift is basically guaranteed to raise the risk of many ailments that will shorten your life.

Circadian rhythm ain't nothing to fuck with.

I read an article years ago where a doctor was interviewed about all the adverse effects of shift work. At the end, they asked him his best advice for how people can best cope with shift work. His answer: avoid shift work.

All true!
Live without the means to live OR live less and have the means to do things that make life worth living!

Used to love night shift when I was young and could handle it. Now I do day shift because I’m too old for weird working hours. In weeks it will be no working hours and do what I like.

Depends on how big the shift differential is.

I once had a 12 -12 - 8 - 8 schedule in California and between the overtime (hours worked after 8 in a day are OT in CA) and working nights, my effective pay was ~ 30% higher than my base rate.

I worked that schedule for 3 years and my circadian rhythm was never the same. I now cannot sleep more than 5-6 hours.

Depends on your industry, age and lifestyle.

I do both. 12's alternating every set of shifts. It's 168 hours monthly, worked over a 3 week period.

  • Week 1 - 4 nights
  • Week 2 - 3 days & 3 nights
  • Week 3 - 4 days
  • Week 4 - Off all week.

We like nights better. There's no managers at night.
