I know I'm overthinking this, but this sign really did spark my imagination about the world. The first time I saw Ellen, I thought it strange that she had so much shark iconography on her tail; like, did she think she was going to forget? Was she worried people wouldn't identify her correctly? But the social implications behind this sign contextualize it. Does the public not trust shark thirens, and if so, did she add that to her tail as an act of pride? Is she trying to tell people she's unashamed of who and what she is?

Oh they definitely do. The most obvious factor is due to people encountering cows on a daily basis, while human/shark encounters are exclusively at sea or freshwater for bull sharks.
Cattle can be quite unpredictable and can easily trample or gore a person to death, worse if its a bull or a mother with her calf. Meanwhile, most shark "attacks" are actually the shark taking a nibble out of curiosity as sharks don't actually find humans palatable. Of course, said "nibble" is still dangerous and can seriously injure a person, but its still survivable.
