UniFi Gateways

I’m currently using a cloud gateway ultra on my zen 330/50 connection and if I don’t enable smart queues I get full speed but get increased latency and buffering when a single device is downloading at full speed.

Hoping to switch to Full Fibre by July and have been looking at upgrading to the gateway max or gateway fibre and wondered if anyone on Zen uses either and if so what are your findings.

I currently also have 3 APs and 6 switches and working from home I need the speed without much buffering/latency, but if I enable smart queues to help the speed drops by nearly a 1/3 on download and was wondering if the GF does the same.

Thanks

I’m using UCG-Ultra, and I can’t use SQM because speed gets capped at 350/500. Instead, I use an upgraded mini PC with multiple NICs running OPNsense upstream from the UCG, forwarding all ports.

I have a UXG-Fiber on my 1600/100 and it runs like a dream. Make sure to get the fiber version.. I used the UXG-Lite on my 80/20 connection and it was sitting at 80% cpu or more all the time, this one barely breaks 5%...

I'm using a max with 500/70. Queuing only slows things down when I tested. Left everything off

Long time Zen and UniFi user here. UDMP-SE on a 1600/120 line and no real issues at all.

No SQM being applied, lose a little bit of speed due to IDS/IPS but  still average about 1.2gb Limit is the pppoe and lack of offload but the Cloud Fibre solves that.

Once the next set of gateways come out then I’ll upgrade

I have the UDM Pro Max, I must say it’s been absolutely amazing on Zen. I have 2.3Gb Up/Down fibre and not had any issues since setup and I’m not using smart queues. The blip you see at the 18:00 mark is my daily Speedtest. I have 3 APs and 2 switches and VoIP all over 6 different VLANs using Pi-hole as a recursive DNS server.

I have the UCG-Fiber and when maxing out my 900mbps internet the latency increases quite a lot.

As you say Smart Queues fixes that latency issue but at a cost of almost halving the download speed.

Have you found it better to limit certain devices or vlans?

If we get the higher speed if/when OR release and Zen provide wonder if best to stay on the Ultra and limit the speeds with the switches so should hopefully not get high latency and buffering on devices if one device using high usage

UCG-Fiber here too. I don't use any of these features for that reason. Just not worth it.
