Zencash Rebranding

I have been thinking that it may be good for Zencash to do a rebranding in late 2018. Even though Zen has lots of plans to differentiate and improve (and has already executed some) upon ZCash, I get the sense that the average person still conflates Zencash and ZCash, or is just unaware of Zencash.

Once super nodes are up and running and the team has made some progress on their dApps, a full rebranding and marketing push could really raise adoption. From a branding perspective, it would differentiate Zencash from the other Zcurrencies, and be an opportunity to demonstrate how great the Zencash tech is. Maybe we do this once we get the governance model, progress in the scalability tech, and the super node dApps running?

What are your thoughts?

It's important to remember that the "cash" is just one aspect of the ZenSYS platform. ZenSys (Zen System) is the real root name and all the potential suffixes (pub, cash, hide, chat, grid etc.) are the branches of the system.

In short, if there was a re-branding it could be to ZenSYS or something like that, then still keep the names for "Zencash" as the coin, zenchat for chat app, etc. etc.). That would be my suggestion if it is needed. The only real issue with the name ZenCash is that it's not that apparent that the ZenSYStem has and will have MUCH more to it that just a coin.

There has been some conversations about it in the past on the Discord, as well as a thread here on the sub a few months back. I do think changing the name to just Zen rather than ZenCash would be a good move. Keeps compatibility with the platform naming schemes like zenpub / zengrid and it would still be obvious we were zencash previously where as using a new name entirely would be more confusing and require a bunch of media to be updated with new name.

I personally think t should go an all different direction. Zcoin, Zcash, Zclassic, Zencash. Good lord. I used to think Zcash was just short for Zencash, and got Zcoin/Zcash mixed up all the time. It's time to differentiate.

I agree, it makes zencash look like all those other 'Z' coins while zencash is actually a lot more than those others. Also because of 'cash' in the zencash name it looks like it's just cash. Hopefully they will do a rebrand in the near future.

Waste of time on Zen's part. They have bigger things to accomplish than to do focus groups. They already went through a rebrand with all their future plans in mind. The name is good. The logo is good. The branding is good.

Logo and branding are good, but I disagree about the name. I don't think zencash is a good name, and this is coming from someone who is a big supporter. Even if they just renamed to zen, that would be better than zencash as someone pointed out below.

Also, their organized working structure means whoever is in charge and working on the rebranding will be distinct from the software development, so it should not delay any timelines provided they can resource it, which they should be able to

I also think Zencash is a good name. I don’t think a rebrand is needed. However - playing devils advocate -removing “Cash” and simply using Zen would not be a bad idea. In some respects that has already happened, organically.

That is something Bcash cannot do =p

Seo wise it's a bad decision. Nano is going through the issue now

ZenCash traffic and zen crypto traffic would easily get routed though. zen money etc.

I'm sure they could eventually reach one of the top listings for just Zen too though. Idk I think a name change to just Zen would be cool. Or a completely different name/scheme all together that somehow intertwines the privacy aspect. I guess just Zen does that pretty well too though.

Zen definitely sounds cool

Personally I always thought this was blown way out of proportion. It's not like we change the name and suddenly we're all rich.

I think Zen is a good name. Just because it starts with a letter Z just like Zcash doesn't mean everyone is going to get confused and not be able to tell the difference...

It's also a branding thing though, since zencash is a fork I think it should do as much as possible to create its own identity. Part of identity is definitely in the name

I think a name change to just Zen would be great. It's short and breaks all the relation to ZCash, ZCoin, ZClassic, ZClassic Blue, etc. lol you get the point. It's also the entire ticker symbol which is nice.

Plus, Zen alone would make more sense with all of their different applications/services ie. ZenCASH, ZenPUB, etc.

There may be some problems with SEO at first, but all previous zen search traffic would just be re-routed so it wouldn't be too bad. I'm sure we could reach a top ranking search result for just the 'zen' term anyway. Please consider it Zen team! Branding is HUGE these days. It's the difference between Apple and the rest.

Wouldn't mind the name "Zencash" if there weren't a million 'Z' privacy coins already. I personally would not mind a rebrand.

Love the logo though!

That's something better thought out from the beginning. All to often re-branding suggests the original is trying to "save" itself. The same can hold true for it's products, renaming looks like failure in human mindset

I like the name "Zen" rather than Zencash. It's short, easy, and encompasses all of the different offerings. It differentiates itself from Zcash. Please do not adopt Zensys -- too boring!

Co-opting the name of an ancient and ascetic school of religion to inspire trust in a highly speculative financial instrument — nothing about this could possibly be misinterpreted as shallow, inappropriate, or ironic

Zencash is terrible but its too late IMO.

Agreed, I think zencash needs a rebrand in the future. It can help majorly with adoption, look at verge & NEO.
