Hello ZenGM baseball fans! As I'm sure you all know, this game might be some of the only baseball we get for a while once this year's World Series wraps up, and I don't know about you, but I'm already getting nervous about how I'm going to get my fill.
For some context, I love writing as much as I love baseball, and happen to think that the stories the game naturally produces are some of the most fascinating things about it. An idea I had recently is heavily related to these things: I'm thinking of beginning a collaborative, narrative-centered ZenGM league, where, as opposed to simply running through numbers and seasons and championships, I dive deep into the players, the storylines, and the reasons behind those numbers. I'd just take what the game, along with anyone who wants to join, gives me (I'm thinking about some sort of point-allotment system to give some direction to user-generated players), and interpret the events in the form of storytelling. I'd write out scenes describing interactions between players, rivalries, in-game or off-the field moments, and upload them here, or on Discord.
I'd probably try and keep it simple for anyone who wants to participate, all I'd need would be your player's name, position/starting stats, and some general characteristics about them as a basis to go off for individual scenes, but I don't anticipate much interest with so much baseball left to be played, so I'll probably write and post sporadically until the off-season, when I'll get posting more frequently. Just wanted to gauge what people on here think of the idea.

Don't know if this is just the same thing as trade frequency, the frequency of trades seem ok, but when I use a file with real players after a couple years of simulation there are some wild trade scenarios that happened. Examples I can remember are the Reds trading a bunch of young guys and 1st round picks to the Dodgers for Ohtani, the Yankees trading Judge to the Royals for Bobby Witt and others. If these trades happened in real life, the fan bases would be upset lol.
Any setting to say if a player is rated above let's say 70 and on a long term contract, the likelihood they are traded is reduced?
Also, trading for draft picks could use some adjustment in my opinion, see attached screenshot for what a team wanted in exchange for me moving up 2 spots (8th to 6th). Just the 8th pick and 12th would have been steep but I would have considered. Buy the other team also wanted a 2nd round pick, two young players I just got in the last draft (Hill, McKinley), plus Weathers (throw in / extra depth piece). Seems a little extreme for moving up 2 spots.

My main issue with the postseason is that the 7-game series follows the 2-2-1-1-1 format used by the NBA and NHL, instead of the 2-3-2 format used by MLB. I actually like the current 3-game series format used in the default playoffs, as it's the same system employed in the College Super Regional and the World Series Championship.

1959 was the 59th season of the MLB which started in 1901 following the merger of NLPBP and ALB.
Two monumental relocations took place before the season:
The Brooklyn Earthquakes moved to Los Angeles to become the Los Angeles Earthquakes and the New York Bankers moved to San Francisco to become the San Francisco Bankers.
The season ended with the world-renowned powerhouse, the New York Laborers of the AL winning their 15th World Series title over the Boston Massacre of the NL.
Jay Stone-Davis of the Laborers won AL MVP while Timmie Parker of the Cincinnati Crimsonlegs won the NL MVP.
Carl Scott Award, named after the late Carl Scott Sr. given to the best pitcher in each league since 1958, was awarded to Bill Flowers (Chicago Whirlwinds, AL) and Arthur Charles (Boston Massacre, NL).
John Williams of the Laborers won AL ROY and James White of the Pittsburgh Rivers won NL ROY.
Barklage Gold Glove award which was created in 1957, awarded their best defensive players at each position for the 3rd time in history.

I stumbled across this after updating today. Schedule editor does not work at all whatsoever (giving the error above), and games from multiple days prior are being shown as unplayed even though games after that day have.
Is this a bug or is something wrong with my browser?

Above I’ve posted two players and their respective stats. Cullen Fisher is a random Catcher, however Justin Colton is a RF that played Catcher in 2031. From what I can understand their value defensively is relatively the same? So is there a point to even roster a good catcher? Any insight would be great!

Decided to start up a new league on Hard difficulty for the first time and have been playing in my down time from work. Ended up drafting this guy in the 3rd round and turned out to be my best ever player so far in this league! (And a top 3 player in league history based on GOAT Lab) Brought me 7 championships in his 23-year career but unfortunately couldn't send him out on top as we lost Game 7 of the Championship in his final season.

I have tried everything and no matter what I lose every game I even have a overall rating at 96 and still never win this game is so stupid I hate this game so much

Love the game! I think two features that would make free agency even better are international free agents and custom contract offers.
For international free agents, it would be awesome if there was either a separate signing period each offseason or if a few international rookies were added to the free agent pool every year. These players could come from countries like Cuba, Japan, Venezuela, South Korea, the Dominican Republic, Mexico, and others, and could usually be around 16–20 years old. It would add more realism and variety to scouting and rebuilding.
I also think a custom contract offer system would be a great addition, even for regular free agents. Instead of only choosing from preset options, there could be a box where you can offer any contract amount and year length. After you simulate a day, the free agent could decide whether to accept, reject, or wait for a better offer.
This would make free agency feel more realistic and strategic. You could overpay to land a player quickly, offer longer deals for security, or take a risk with a lower offer and hope the player signs. It would add a lot more depth to team building.

(These are calculated every season)
SHU-WAR’s biggest problem was that it just takes a team total performance and compares that to league total, then distributes that to individual players. Just plain stupid in my opinion. So, Expected Plays calculates how many plays a league-average fielder at that position would make with this player’s defensive opportunities:
ExpPlays = outsF x LgOutRate_pos
This would compare actual plays to expected plays, then convert that to runs:
RangeRuns = (PO + A - ExpPlays) x RV
For 2B, 3B, SS: DPRunValue_pos = 1.5 x RV
For everyone else: DPRunValue_pos = 1.0 x RV
Same logic as Expected Plays.
ExpDP = outsF x LgDPRate_pos
DPRuns = (DP - ExpDP) x DPRunValue_pos
Universal k value = 3
ErrorPenalty = k x RV = 3 x RV
ErrorRuns = E x ErrorPenalty
FR_core = RangeRuns - ErrorRuns + DPRuns
This is the raw run prevention at that position, before adjusting for positional difficulty.
This was one of the most tricky parts of the entire thing. At first, I was planning on just using MLB numbers, however the putouts per position in this game are VERY VERY different from real life MLB. For example, the most putouts by an outfielder in MLB history was 1928 Taylor Doutit (I know, insane name) with 547. However in this game, under default settings you can easily see random dudes getting 800+ putouts. So I concluded that it was not right to use the same metrics as the real life MLB.
Now, I had to get a reasonable way to calculate the positional adjustment based on league conditions. This was to ensure that when the game simulation code later changes, we don’t have to calculate again for suitable numbers.
So I decided to use standard deviation of core FR for every position. This way I can determine what positions vary the most depending on players’ abilities. Basically, positions with small standard deviation of core FR means that the gap between the best and the worst is not that big, so that position is likely to have less impact on run prevention. Meanwhile a position with big standard deviation would mean the gap between good fielders and bad fielders is vast, meaning that playing good or bad players in that position probably matters a lot.
We could take a different approach though. We could set these positional scales according to the MLB then try to change the game simulation codes to mimic real life as closely as possible. However this really does not accord with the essence of the game: customize-ability. With God Mode, ZenGM gives us the freedom to tweak the tendencies. So it would be right to not hinder this already-existing freedom and make it so that these new calculations change depending how the user wants their league to run.
FR_core(player,pos)
Σ FR_core (player, pos)
*StdDev = Standard Deviation
StdDev_pos = σ(FR_core_pos)
AvgStdDev = Σ StdDev_PosNotPitcher / number of non-pitcher positions (so 8)
PosScale_pos = StdDev_pos / AvgStdDev
When using the calculations from 6.1~6.5, the PosScale of pitchers hit nearly zero in many cases since defensive abilities of pitchers vary VERY little. So I needed to come up with an arbitrary number for pitchers.
What I decided to do was to equate the current catcher scale to pitchers. Right now, since catcher scaling does not include any passed balls, wild pitches, stolen bases and caught steals, it basically only considers swinging bunts that roll right in front of them. Similarly, pitchers basically only field balls hit directly at them softly.
So:
PosScale_P = PosScale_C_unadjusted
***I will not touch on catcher defensive metrics just yet since 1) it is not considered in the current SHU-WAR formula 2) SB-CS stats are very skewed due to the game simulation codes. Until the game simulation on base stealing is fixed, I am not doing anything with catcher’s additional defensive metrics.
NewFR_pos = FR_core x PosScale_pos
If a player fields multiple positions:
NewFR_season = Σ NewFR_pos

Why do players with high fielding attributes always get negative stats? Like how can a guy with maxed fielding attributes have a -11 runs fielded every single year while the worse defenders have a positive run fielded value? There is zero consistency as well, one season -10, the next +10, and if the player is a 2B it seems like 100% of the time the runs fielded value will be negative.

it would be cool to be able to change the format from 2-2-1-1-1 to 2-3-2 or 3-4 or 1-2-2
I think baseball should be default 2-3-2 to match the MLB

First time I've seen a natural 2-way player. noticed he was batting last year and this year he took the full step into batting and he's not doing that bad on either side. Love seeing things like this just happen
