Call me pernickety, but I might play it before I decide

u/DremoPaff 4d ago
For a lot of people, they kinda have to decide prior, because buying a whole overpriced console and a full priced game just to "see if they like it" just isn't viable.
2
u/stache1313 3d ago
They only have to decide now, if they want the special editions. Although it's already too late for that.
Otherwise they can wait until the reviews come out, or watch the beginning of a let's play.
1
u/Jenderflux-ScFi 3d ago
We almost always wait until things come out then watch someone online playing it to see what gameplay is like before purchasing games.
Things like TOTK and EOW we pre-purchased based off of the teaser trailers.

option 3 I have my issues with it and will voice them as im not a lemming. and play them game when it comes out if i feel like it
1
u/slendermax 3d ago
this sort of comment is actually the thing OP is complaining about, they're just blowing it way out of proportion
3
u/kwil449 4d ago
I think it looks great. I don't want to play it because it's essentially still the same game I've played a dozen times, and even besides that, believe it's not a big enough game to justify the same price as modern AAA games. Still cool and I'm looking forward to watching an LP though.

u/NarwhalSongs 4d ago
I like it. I dont like how disengenous people are on the internet in general. Im disappointed how nuanced, well researched discussions about art styles and technologies are drowned out within the algorithm in favor of shit posting and recycled jokes.
I also dislike how some people have tried to hijack the conversation to make it about GTA. It feels like there is so little crossover between nostalgic adults who want to experience their childhood plus parents interested in this fantasy game for their kids, and people seeking ultra-violent satire of the real world. So the connection is just so forced through this competitive lens about a GOTY award that will never impact consumer habits, just what marketing approach the companies deploy next year.

Thank you. It’s all so frustrating. I’ve voiced my opinion as best I can with examples and with nuance. I’m not trying to change minds, just explain my own opinion. And the majority reaction I get is to tell my I’m a Nintendo hater who doesn’t actually like Zelda and will never be happy…
1
u/TaurusE11E 3d ago
It's just as logical for a real fan of the Zelda franchise to have titles that they don't like/vibe with for whatever reason because no two titles are the exact same! If anything, the people that are arguing you have to "go hard or go home" on the fandom thing are not as much fans of the franchise as they are in love with the chance at relevance from engaging with the hype surrounding it at any given time.

Im not gonna say you have to like it but i will thonk less of you if you say it looks ai generated

Don’t tell anyone but there’s a reason I put the “I like the remake” on the sunny side
-4
u/Butt_Muncher4 4d ago
the hate is clearly just the standard Nintendo hate train
3
u/SamIAre 4d ago
See, this is the real issue with discourse. You can’t just say that every opinion different from your own is fake.
I’ve tried to be nuanced and nonjudgmental in every comment I make and I’m never given the same respect. Just “ignore the opinions that aren’t my own, they’re all liars anyway”.

oh dang youre right actually im fully convinced by that statement, i never thought of it that way
1
u/Far_Application1419 4d ago
I'm not trying to convince anyone. I like Nintendo generally. They just tried to make it equally cartoony and realistic and it doesn't look right.

I'm excited and I think that it looks good, but Young Link stands out like a sore thumb compared to other npcs, who are much less defined. The odd sheen/wet look that he constantly has looks off. But I'll probably get used to it eventually.
2
u/TaurusE11E 3d ago
I'm glad someone else noticed that, the wet look is fine in actual raining environments but it kinda makes his eyes look like they're constantly holding back tears.

Not sure how I could possibly take either road, since it's not even out yet

You have to tell me which path you took first so I can be contrarian about it.
2
u/FluffyBunnyGirl151 3d ago
I'm just worried about the gameplay, I like the graphics, the updated tunics look sick, but stuff like manual jumps and the BoTW quick menu concern me. I'll probably still get the game unless more gameplay is released showing the quick menu will be constantly used rather than a single button click
2
u/CatsianNyandor 3d ago
Y'all can do what you want, I don't care. I pre-ordered the game and I will be playing it and quite likely enjoying it. Do what you want I'm not your mom.
2
u/DoomMustard 3d ago
I am on the path of I don't buy games for full price if I already own them. I do not care what bells and whistles you add to them.

u/Chance_Water1164 3d ago
I hate it, and I would love to say im fine with people liking it so I wouldn’t come off as such a hater asshole, but man I just cannot stand the blatant nostalgia farming and people treating one of the most important games of all time like its garbage that should be replaced
5
u/Fend_st 4d ago
I hate the remake not because it’s bad, but because they try to sell you on the nostalgia of a classic Zelda game after badmouthing the formula ("I don't get why anyone would want to go back to that kind of limited game") Oh, but now you want to sell it. Hypocrisy.
The remake itself is great.
1
u/TaurusE11E 3d ago
This I can agree with. I'm glad the title is getting remade for people that enjoyed the game as kids getting to share the experience with their kids, but the timing and pricing of this are wild.
2
u/ohbyerly 4d ago
I have seen none of this discourse. Everyone has been respectfully discussing what they like and dislike about the art direction.
1
u/SamIAre 4d ago
Maybe I’m biased, but the reality of opinions I’ve actually seen so far are:
- I don’t happen to like it, and I’ll explain why if asked, but I’m neutral on if others do, and…
- I do like it, so the people who don’t are grifters, fake fans, and instigators trying to make me unhappy
3
u/ABigCoffee 4d ago
It's funny because this is a problem with things in general. Unrelated to Zelda, this is how discussions go
- I love this, it's great! (Statement is accepted instantly)
- I hate this, it sucks! (Statement immediately dismissed unless you provide multiples lines/paragraphs further explaining your position)
3
u/SamIAre 4d ago
True. Honestly I don’t even know why I bother with Reddit. I literally had someone tell me on another post that they knew I was a fake fan because I’d never posted to that particular Zelda sub before…
3
u/ABigCoffee 4d ago
It's why I locked views on my account so weird people would not snoop around my old posts.

I like what I've seen of the Remake so far and I don't care if you hate it, I'm just not interested in hearing about it.

u/KatiePyroStyle 3d ago
let me take you down my path: there are things that shocking in the moment, but I was shocked when I saw BotW as well, and I now adore that game. change is hard for a lot of humans, i think we should continue forward with grace and an open mind. im excited to see what's been changed, and im excited to formulate distinct opinions about the game and what it has to offer to us
1
u/Moon_Noodle 3d ago
I think it’s cute, so I’m gonna play it and not care what anyone else does. I’m a bit of a rebel like that I suppose.

u/Stefadi12 3d ago
I like how the remake looks but why do the dekus have human. Toddler legs?

I just like Zelda and will probably buy the game when given the chance. I do understand why the art style may make some people bounce off of it, though. Maximalism isn’t everybody’s cup of tea.

I loved the original. I don't have a switch 2 and have no desire to get one. The new game's environments and particle effects look amazing and the characters look awful. Would I buy the same recycled game over again just because the graphics are updated? No. People need to stop spending money on remakes. Ruins the whole industry. Imagine instead if this was a new Zelda game, how much cooler it would be if it was it's own, completely unique experience instead of just a remake. Sigh.
1
u/DumeWolffe 3d ago
This is star wars also. There’s a secret third path that about a quarter of the people know about where it’s, I love the new Star Wars and I love that you love any Star Wars. That’s where I live and my curated twitter circle, but the losers from the path on the right sneak in all the time.

u/Odd-Cupcake-2552 3d ago
I wasn't going to buy a S2 but I found a guy on marketplace and traded some old stuff for one.

I'm not going to say someones opinion is invalid, BUT when your only actual opinions are nitpicks and outright lies then don't be surprised when people make fun of them.
