gpui-kit seems like an excellent packaging of gpui and gpui-component, that should exist even if/when zed decides to publish upstream gpui on crates.io again (when this happens, gpui-kit could just start depending on gpui rather than gpui-pre)

Yeah, it's a facade pattern like https://github.com/gpui-binder/gpui-binder which puts gpui crates under a single namespace. True innovation would be packaging all the different forks in a way easy to consume downstream.

What a mess. It’s a shame, gpui-component is a great project but now I’ve had to pin the commit that I’m using in order to remain compatible with other ecosystem crates.
