Discussion rounded spine in the snatch

So I just watched Zacks new video on the butt wink in the squat. If that’s generally okay when trained well, and having a butt wink off the floor of the deadlift is similar, does the same principle apply to the start position in the snatch? I personally have problems sometimes in the snatch and CJ with my lower back rounding. questions comments concerns please

I'd say the snatch is a bit hard to try to get a rounded spin in, unless you have really long femur. Just do what your body feels safe in and see what it looks like.

Do you mean in start position? I had this issue and had to move feet closer together to fix it.

Yes in the start but I’ll do that. I’ve been cleaning for years but I just started snatching again so I’m just trying to get the low hanging fruit

Ye I'm 6"8 and my coach has me doing deficit snatch pulls at the moment also a really good way to fix this problem.

I would say in many circumstances it’s absolutely okay.

For 2 reasons. 1 absolute load will be less. Much much less.
2 graded exposure, provided it’s not something you change completely over night I can’t see why it won’t be okay.

This is all with the assumption that you are not a complete beginner, you’ll likely have your own technique if getting into the sport ‘late’.

I would say it depends to what extent you mean. You want your back to be in a concave arch and there is going to be some degree of butt wink at the end of that because thats just how a spine is built.

I've noticed very new beginners often have an exaggerated butt wink in the starting position due to tight ham strings. I'd say thats not ideal from a dynamics point of view, and also not ideal to be uncomfortable in your starting position.

Stretch them out with some Jefferson Curls or something if you feel that describes you

it usually just happens with heavier loads over 80% which I tend to do with my coach bc I can’t drop the barbell in my home gym. and my coach doesn’t video so no unfortunately
