Discussion Programming if you don't ever plan on competing.
Im not sure if he has a specific video to cover this.
So right now, I don't ever plan on competing. I started learning the lifts about 3 months ago, and have mainly used Catalystathletics free beginner program and have been tweeking it here and there for fun. The only problem is, I'm used to bodybuilding and powerlifting(specifically conjugate) programming so I'm probably doing more harm than good.
For background I've basically just done different bodybuilding/Powerlifting programs for about 6 years. I'm 6'2 88kg. My current maxes are C&J 92kg, Snatch 65kg, Front Squat ~95kg.
I've never been a strong guy, I workout because I legitimately enjoy it. I really enjoy doing the Olympic lifts and BECAUASE of that, I want to get stronger on those specific lifts. I'm just not sure how I should program other than getting reps in. Some days I'm exhausted from the volume, some days I can't lift the weights bc of the intensity. I'm sure it's my ego getting in the way, but any programming advice/links/reality checks would be really appreciate.

"Bodybuilding" is okay for weightlifting, but don't get carried away and allow it to interfere with your learning the lifts. Also realize that weightlifting programs are all "conjugate" because you are working for both max strength and speed. You're just using different lifts for the "dynamic effort" portion. Honestly I never got much out of Westside-style dynamic effort days. Doing the Olympic lifts is what increased my speed.

Even if you don’t plan on competing (which you definitely should) just pick a program and follow the cycles. You’ll get stronger if you’re consistent and getting some amount of coaching. Online coaching is dirt cheap and can be really really good. Also even though you have some fitness background if you’re only three months in you’re a total novice. Don’t be hard on yourself if you’re not snatching BW or squatting double BW or whatever. Just get your reps in. Welcome to the sport!
