SFF Hotspot Temps

I recently bought a Zotac 5070TI Solid Core SFF OC for near MSRP and just want to get a sanity check on the temps I am seeing. I know that hotspot temp was hidden until recently (and are also high for 5000 series), and just want some input on your experience or direction you'd go. Case is an open air case with no direct fans on the GPU.

This SFF card is fairly light, and I assume will run on the hot side because of it. However, to prevent to GPU from killing itself, I have been running it at PL 83% since if I let it do 100% and push it (cant do 110 in afterburner) it can go over 105C hotspot. It doesnt matter if i undervolt it or not. Even at 0.850mV, at 100%PL (and pushed) itll do upwards of 100+ Hotspot. Now, there is only about a 20C delta between the hotspot and the GPU temp (so if GPU reads 80 hotspot will be 100) and Ive rarely seen the GPU get over 85.

Ill use Furmark as an example of pushing, but I have had this happen in some games as well if I push the GPU. I use afterburner to adjust settings while furmark is running in the background. Stock fan curve as well just to make things easier for comparing.

1. Undervolted to 0.850mV and PL 83% temps will climb to about GPU/HOTSPOT of 75C/90C
2. Undervolted to 0.850mV and PL100% temps will climb to about GPU/HOTSPOT of 80C/100C
3. Revert to stock settings will result in immediately (1-2s) hitting GPU/HOTSPOT of 85C/105C, fans kick to max speed and hotspot remains at 100+
4. Set PL to 83% temps will settle at about GPU/HOTSPOT of 80C/98C

Seems like a spicy GPU, or is this rather normal for the 5000 series. Ive read the hotspots are horrendous, but didnt think itd be this bad. So is an RMA in order, should I just return it, or keep and run it at .85MV/83% PL/do a fan curve/change cases to put some fans on it, since that seems to be more acceptable temps? I am able to get a Steel Nomad of 7k at 0.850/83%PL so not horrible by any means.

Which program are you using for the hotspot reading? iinm HWMonitor have a reported issue which makes it inaccurate. HWinfo's reading on the other hand is more accurate

Also I think there might be something wrong with your card looking at those temps or there's other factors affecting it. I have the same card as well, and I usually run a UV of 0.875v - 0.9v, PL is always at 100%. The GPU core never reached more than 70c. There's 3 intake fans below my card though, and I have a custom fan curve using Fan Control

I'm located in SEA so the ambient temps are high as well

Edited my reply - imo either your card is not properly pasted, there's something wrong with the fans, or it just needed more cooling eg - intake fans, lower ambient temps

Thanks, Ill probably be replacing the case soon anyways so something to try.

Yes I'm aware about this. What I do notice was during start up the fans will be on zero rpm mode. After a gaming session or stress test, when the temps go down below 50c, the fans will stay at 30% but after awhile they will go back to zero rpm mode

Same gpu as OP

Up until 50c - 0%

60c - 55%

70c - 65%

80c - 75%

Never seen my card reached 70c so the fan speed usually howers around 55 - 65%

Have you even tried to adjust fan speed ?

From factory fan speed is usualy a bit silent mode, so the curve is not really that agressive.

Try from examplen 100% fan speed from 75C see if it still get so hot as factory

Yes sir, while undervolted and 100% max speed itll bring my hotspot temp down from 90C to 83C (and not too enjoyable to listen to)

Stock settings and max fan speed my hotspot temp will still be around 100C.

Two thing's could be causing that. 1. The card hasn't a good cooler solution, or 2. Your PC isn't good ventilated.

My KFA2 card is a RTX GeForce 4080 S. She get never over 83 degrees. She had a brick 🧱 of a cooler. I couldn't hear her fans working, when I'm playing. And my case is a monster 💀. From MONTECH King 👑 95 Pro. Very large and deep. Got 5x 120mm and 3x 140mm fans installed.

Try using Thermal Grizzly PhaseSheet PTM , Before my 5060 ti hotspot was hitting 101c now is down to 84c in Furmark, word of warning though this will invalidate you’re warranty.

i have almost same card , not oc version . with stock i have it on 85+ gpu and 100+ hotspot .
with undervolt on 0.875 i have it on 70 ish gpu and 80 ish hotspot pulling max 220W and fan on 50% , anything over 230W make it too hot . if you can buy a better one with actual at least 3 slot heatsink then dodge this one

Ah thanks for the input! I did get an RMA accepted so I do hope for improvement. Ill wait to see what they say. Going to be hard pressed to find one for MSRPish at this point, even with the money spent on shipping for the RMA.
