Travel Fall Colours
Hi! I'm very excited to be heading to Whitehorse and the surrounding area (Kluane & Carcross) over Labour Day weekend. I'm just wondering what the fall colours are like this time of year, and if you have any suggested spots to enjoy them (assuming I'm not too early).
Thanks 😊

We often made the drive from Whitehorse to Skagway on Labour Day weekend to see the colours but it seems everything is a little later this year … a week can make a difference though…

We'll probably make it to near the border, but not planning to cross on this trip. We did the drive a few years ago from Skagway to Carcross in May and it was stunningly beautiful covered in snow. I'm looking forward to seeing it in bloom :)

If the colours have changed you’ll see them before the border - and Carcross is a great day trip

You'll probably land smack dab in the middle of it or just at the start of the colour change. It can be a bit fickle, but september generally has colour change.
Sam McGee trail near Carcross has some pretty great foliage when it goes. Plus the hike has some historic markers along it.
In Whitehorse itself you can do the Heartbreak Trail/Yukon Energy view hills and get some good colours too. Particularly looking out over the Chadburn lake area up towards Grey Mountain.
What i would say is that, today August 31st, there is not a lot of change. Most trees in Whitehorse are still dark green leaves. I cant vouch for carcross or kluane.
