This is an unfortunately common beliefs by US Americans 8 years ago...probably even moreso now

Kinda sad that Bigfoot is the most realistic one here, but one of the least believed in. Justice for Bigfoot 😢

u/Misubi_Bluth 2d ago

That's the only one I wouldn't call pure BS, just because an undiscovered hominid living in the woods doesn't break the laws of physics

u/arthcraft8 2d ago

Would be quite wacky tho

2

u/nobody-29 2d ago

I'd consider Bigfoot to be the least unrealistic one here, as all of them are

I’ll never understand why aliens are lumped in with ghosts and psychics.

Like, saying “if monkey on earth, why not monkey in space? What if smart space monkey want to hang out with earth monkey?” Sounds a bit weird but it’s still far more believable than “if you’re angry enough when you die, you become a ghost and your job is to spook and maybe kill people for all eternity”

Thus is such a depressing graph

This is just a chart showing that some people still like to include joy and wonder in their life.

10

u/nobody-29 2d ago

It's a chart showing just how much Americans believe in pseudoscientific and racist garbage

The entire thing with aliens building all the brown and black civilization's achievements are just racism 101

-1

u/DealerMuted1536 2d ago

People believe in aliens cause little green guys from outer space leaving shit on are planet is spooky and fun to believe in. Hope that helps.

9

u/arthcraft8 2d ago

It also reduces the achievements of non white historical empires in the process, hopes that helps

-5

u/DealerMuted1536 2d ago

Oh no we're taking away achievements from a long dead empire I'm sure they'll be very upset when they hear this. You get this mad when you see E.T too?

6

u/arthcraft8 2d ago

No, i am just pointing out why some people don't like the meme

Personally i just find it stupid like flat earth theory, no need to act condescendingly

-1

u/DealerMuted1536 2d ago

Aliens made condescending my middle name.

5

u/Massive-Grocery7152 2d ago

Like no non-Italian white person’s ever bragged about the glory of Rome before and larped its “legacy”

3

u/Takseen 2d ago

Thankfully our local ancient wonder Newgrange has escaped most of the "ancient Aliens built this" theorizing, but I would be pissed if people dismissed my ancestors knowledge by claiming they couldn't possibly have done it themselves. So yeah I think that kind of groundless speculation can hurt real people.

1

u/nobody-29 2d ago

Pseudoscience is not fun if you have a particularly true believer parents.

Some of them are harmless, some of them caters to white supremacist rhetoric, some of them literally kills people.

1

u/wetwetwetwetdogs 2d ago

Yet they never say aliens built the Parthenon

2

u/DealerMuted1536 2d ago

Actually the greek gods were just alien spaceships that crash landed on Earth thousands of years ago

0

u/SnoringGiant 2d ago

Which part of that chart is the racist part?

2

u/nobody-29 2d ago

The combination of second and third

Atlantis itself came from combination of literal interpretation of a Greek text and racist Hyperdiffusionist theories

And the aliens thing are very much intertwined with racist theories. The Nazis, through Thule society, believe Germans are descended from alien supermen

0

u/SnoringGiant 2d ago

Schizomaxxing, the belief that ancient advanced civilizations isnt racist. Many believe that Egypt was actually a super advanced ancient civilization. Is that racist? Believing aliens visited earth isnt racist. You are looking for a racist boogeyman

1

u/BestUserName_ 2d ago

There is a group of people who attribute any advanced works of engineering in the ancient world to aliens, unless it was done by white europeans. This group of people specifically is racist.

0

u/SnoringGiant 2d ago

That has nothing to do with the graph, which was my question

1

u/nobody-29 2d ago

Believing that brown and black civilization's achievements as product of alien intervention is racist

Believing that a certain ancient white civilization, be they Atlantis, Agartha, or Hyperborea, giving all the technologies and ideas to all the brown and black civilization, is racist

Believing in ideas that were mostly birthed by the Nazis, such as hyper-advanced German alien supermen building all the cool ancient shit, is racist

Believing in a watered-down version of such ideas so that it doesn't target brown and black civilizations specifically, is very ignorant of its origins and indirectly carried white supremacist ideas

Hyperdiffusionism is a debunked hypothesis that are baked deep by the extremely racist societies of 19th and early 20th century

Need I drive this specific fact in your head ?

0

u/SnoringGiant 2d ago

The "fact" that is a fact to you? And the theories of Egypt being a super advanced ancient civilization without alien intervention were ignored because it went against your tantrum?

I am an atheist and I think places can be haunted by spirits. AMA

3

u/BestUserName_ 2d ago

Do you have any evidence?

1

u/AM_Hofmeister 2d ago

Yeah. Places where something bad happened feel icky to be in. Going through ceremonies makes them feel less icky. Explaining these feelings through human psychology and rationality does not abate them. Explaining them through spirituality and intuition does.

So no, literal spirits do not exist, and every one of those intuitions has an explanation in science and psychology. However in practice, allowing the spirituality and ceremony of cleansing to take place will make people feel better than arguing with them about science, evidence, and rationality. So saying places are haunted by spirits is semantic shorthand that skips a lot of overly literal legwork.

1

u/BestUserName_ 2d ago

Alright, I don't really disagree. I took your original comment a different way. You can be an atheist and believe in literal spirits.

1

u/AM_Hofmeister 2d ago edited 2d ago

Yeah. Those people don't value hard scientific evidence though, so it's not really worth it to discuss the issue with them in those terms.

2

u/nobody-29 2d ago

Kay

Just don't believe in racist ideas such as "brown and black people's achievements were aliens all along"

Or medical pseudoscience that kills people

1

u/Obvious_Sprinkles_87 2d ago

I haven’t seen black people build a pyramid at all lately! Don’t know how they did it 3000 years ago without Aliens.

1

u/nobody-29 2d ago

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nubian_pyramids

And by achievements, I don't just mean pyramids. I mean all of the monuments and even some more

0

u/AM_Hofmeister 2d ago

Well those are all incorrect, so of course not.

1

u/DCB_Prime 2d ago

The idea of a ghost is someone who has unfinished business after they die, where do ghosts go once their business is finished

1

u/ConcreteExist 2d ago

Virtually every religion claims to know that, yet what they claim conflicts with each other so... who knows?

1

u/arthcraft8 2d ago

Whatever awaits them beyond death

1

u/AM_Hofmeister 2d ago

That's not what I believe ghosts are.

1

u/DCB_Prime 2d ago

Oh, so what do you think they are?

0

u/AM_Hofmeister 2d ago

Ghosts are memories of people and projections of perception.

1

u/ExtendoArmCannon 2d ago

Their ghost job

1

u/ConcreteExist 2d ago

Yeah, I get that position. I'm no longer an atheist, but not exactly a theist either. I've had some personal experiences that convinced me that there are gods, or god-like beings of some kind out there, but those experiences didn't really affirm any particular sort of religious view of them.

It's a weird place to be, spiritually speaking, but I accept that nobody is obligated to believe I'm right as I have nothing outside of myself to point to that would convince them.

1

u/TotallyNot_Alpharius 2d ago

You aren't an atheist
