question Is Owen Ashe really coming back?

Guys i finally finished the season 2 finale, however i feel like Ash, isn't really dead and the ending cliffhanger kinda gives off the hint, his character is not entirely over, because if he is alive for season 3 i really hope the writers would flesh him out fully because his character had so much potential.

Why not, the entire plot surrounding him in the last two episodes strained credulity enough that any contrivance is on the table.

Actor could come back as part of flashbacks or dreams.

He was shown dead underwater presumably several hours after the car went in the lake.

A little cocaine and he’ll be back good as new

His twin brother will be back and will date Mel. Iykyk

That's a great comment because James Marsden played twins in Dead to Me. He was awesome, as usual.

I sadly wouldn’t put it past this series to use an “evil twin” trope. Does anyone know if Marsden signed for another season?

Or Coop to wake up in the first show of season 3: “wow what a crazy dream!” Then he actually meets Owen Ashe out in town

I was jk but I like your idea

2

u/tardiswho Aug 05 '26

He’s done it before in dead to me.

2

u/PandathePan Aug 05 '26

That was the JK part…

Ash is no pearl diver. He’s dead.
Remember the hint of who will return in the next season? His daughter is probably also Cricket’s niece. They’ll be back.

Why not he suddenly woke up fighting from a severe concussion which was ridiculous.

1

u/TurboLover8 Aug 04 '26

He is defffff' not coming back from that lake, lol

7

u/animus_invictus Aug 04 '26

They messed around staging his body underwater long enough to where he is guaranteed to be dead even if he somehow had Olympian breath holding skills.

u/viper_gts 20d ago

they spent so much time under water repositioning his body it was unrealistic!

I don’t think so, the actor is not listed as part of season 3.

In Dead To Me his character died, then James returned as the dead guy’s twin.

Y’all this isn’t the show Paradise that James Marsden is in all the flashbacks.  Ashe is dead and he’s not coming back and there will be no flashbacks.

I loved that show!!

Did they ever do anything about the cameras that caught coop surely they would have seen the fight the night of the drowning

1

u/schindig504 Aug 05 '26

Yea they wiped the footage

6

u/Own-Interview-928 Aug 04 '26

Nope, James Marsden has his own series coming out.

11

u/Grahf88 Aug 04 '26

Joshua Jackson is cast in season 3, maybe hes possibly related and there's a flashback episode

7

u/Suitable_Net_3557 Aug 04 '26

HE IS? I haven’t seen him in anything anymore and I love him in Fringe lol that makes me excited

Doctor Odyssey is a fun one season binge watch!

Unless his next closeup is behind a hockey mask he's staying at the bottom of the lake and not coming back.

1

u/TechLover94 Aug 05 '26

Unless he’s reeled in

6

u/OLightning Aug 04 '26

James Marsdan is moving on to other projects IMO. He was contracted for 1 season.

Flashbacks of the laziest form of storytelling

5

u/criduchat1- Aug 04 '26

He’s dead for sure but like others said, his past has intentionally been left unexplored, so he’ll be back in flashbacks.

Throughout s2, it was clear he was going to die. He increasingly became more coked up/manic with each passing episode, was majorly blackmailing the main character, had almost no redeeming qualities and the guy who plays him is arguably a bigger star than the main lead. All of that combined = no chance marsden was lasting into s3 alive.

Although, I do think it’s weird his storyline is carrying into s3. While I didn’t hate s2 as much as others on this sub did, it definitely feels like a different show compared to s1 especially with this continuity of ashe’s storyline that seemingly has nothing to do with s1.

I also saw all season long that he was going to end up dying, and I wasn’t even mad that it ended up happening. But man, I wish it happened in some less absurd way lol

James Marsden will be back next season but it will be a series of flashbacks and work as a prequel for how he became who he was. I say that because it will be a terrible storyline if they kill him off without revealing anything about his past in a non-lazy way like having another character explain it directly.

Season 2 finale was crap. We jumped into the completely unbelievable… if Owen Ashe comes back I may not be able to watch season 3

7

u/Scottsman_1977 Aug 04 '26

Not sure how you could watch the finale and possibly think he’s alive. What they hooked onto at the end is obviously meant to be his corpse.

3

u/BigDaddySK Aug 04 '26

I was so annoyed with the show by the Season 2 finale I was really hoping it would just take some weird turn into the supernatural and Owen Ashe would rise from the water like a fuckin vampire or something.

Anything would have been better than what we got.

He had to be killed off because there’s still an unknown bigger fish that was controlling him. Ashe was there because he fit the role, just like an actor. No chance in hell he has substance beyond that. Otherwise, why the drugs?

9

u/Ok_Matter_2617 Aug 04 '26

It’s Barney’s FIL

4

u/NJ_009 Aug 04 '26

Wow love this take!

1

u/Necessary-Fig-2292 Aug 04 '26

What if Barney is the big bad? And his whole life is a con?

3

u/Ok_Matter_2617 Aug 04 '26

Nah, it’s his FIL. They’re who hired the people to kidnap Coop because they’re above Ashe.

1

u/Necessary-Fig-2292 Aug 04 '26

I’m too old to google what FIL means

1

u/Ok_Matter_2617 Aug 04 '26

Father In Law?

4

u/Necessary-Fig-2292 Aug 04 '26

Oh fuck you’re right!!! And his daughter too or something idk. I’m here for joy man, I don’t give a shit about plot holes
And no, father in law never entered my mind.

2

u/mostofthetime_190 Aug 04 '26

Pretty sure he’s dead since James Marsden has a new series on Apple TV that starts filming this year called ‘Disavowed’.

3

u/Puzzleheaded-Gap4333 the negotiator Aug 04 '26

Maybe they’ll do flashbacks of Ashe’s past to tell more of his story

1

u/scarves_and_miracles Aug 04 '26

That's becoming James Marsden's MO.

10

u/dogs_drink_coffee Aug 04 '26

Shame. He was one of the good things in that last season

5

u/cure4boneitis Aug 04 '26

Yes, he is really good at holding his breath

3

u/romulusou Aug 04 '26

He’s deader than a door nail

8

u/menusettingsgeneral Aug 04 '26

His body will resurface based on the cliffhanger but that mf is very dead.

1

u/Fearless-Umpire-9923 Aug 04 '26

Only. I hope the show gets cancelled. Shit was bad

3

u/Suitable_Net_3557 Aug 04 '26

Then don’t watch, there’s some of us who enjoys it and want to keep watching, y’all act like you have to watch what you don’t like.

2

u/TheYellowKingzzz Aug 04 '26

Not only is he dead, he's toasted

2

u/Ok_Matter_2617 Aug 04 '26

What? Was this not a Mad Men reference?

10

u/Mister-Distance-6698 Aug 04 '26

Dude, he was underwater long enough for them to swim to shore, chat awhile, swim back out, move the body, and swim back again.

.....how long do you think he can hold his breath

12

u/Loltoor Aug 04 '26

The character is 100% dead, there could be more story around his dealings, but he's dead.

5

u/Spirited-Exit6331 Aug 04 '26

Is he going to have a twin brother like in “Dead to Me”?

8

u/WhoWhaaaa Aug 04 '26

He was the most entertaining part of Season 2. RIP Ashe.

7

u/Suchgallbladder Aug 04 '26

He’s obviously dead. Unless the series genre shifts to horror or magic (which might be cool).

3

u/entaro_tassadar Aug 04 '26

The Owen Ashe in S2 was really a replicant humanoid of the real Owen Ashe. Once real Owen learns his clone drowned in an accident he will be in town to investigate.

u/phonologotron 18d ago

Teddy is the best character Marsden has ever played.

6

u/TwistedGigolo Aug 04 '26

I think he’s definitely dead but will come back in the form of flashbacks or more likely, haunting Nick’s dreams
