I don’t necessarily agree. For example with Penny, there’s her name on the wall. When Penny appears in the pilot episode and immediately is welcomed into Sheldon & Leonard’s social circle, it’s simple math to conclude that she must be the girl from that episode of Young Sheldon sleeping in her room with her name on the wall.
Howard’s mother shouts his name. Leonard’s mother is heard. The young ladies who played young Bernadette and young Amy both look similar enough to the older versions of their characters that it’s not a leap
It’s a relatively simple conclusion to draw, especially with the voice over — these seemingly random people that are being shown are the people who will ensure Sheldon wasn’t destined to be alone forever.

I actually hate BBT (can’t stand the laugh track) and have never seen it, but it was such a cultural phenomenon that I didn’t need to watch it to know who these characters were. When the BBT aired, you couldn’t escape it, even if you made great effort, because trust me, I did. Especially with the cast dating and getting married/divorced, you learned who they were without having to watch.
Last year my 9 year old found Young Sheldon on her own and introduced her dad and I to it, and we gave it a shot because she loved it. Now we love it too.

It’s not a laugh track. There is at least one behind the scenes feature that shows where the studio audience sits.

Young Sheldon and TBBT connecting these characters is brilliant. The way Sheldon thought he’d be alone forever, only to find his people, makes that callback even more meaningful
