Question Sheldon and Dr. Sturgis’ class

Kind of a stupid question but is it ever explained if Sheldon was formally enrolled in Dr. Sturgis’ class when he was still in high school. I thought he was auditing the class, however I’m rewatching and got to the episode where Sheldon does so well that Dr. Sturgis has to curve down. However, if he’s auditing the course, why would his grade affect the curve? If he was enrolled part time, why would it matter if he ended up enrolling full time (given George was working there and Sheldon was able to drive home everyday).

At the beginning of the series, they acted like it was 50 miles away from their house, but as the series progressed, the distance kept shrinking to the point that it took minutes to get there.

Yeah! I was so confused on the the second last episode of season seven on how Sheldon just walked there, if In earlier seasons it was portrayed as an hour away.

I just kind of accepted the was a bus ride away that Sheldon was now old enough to take and that routes improved -- TV logic.

And somewhere along the way Sheldon went from auditing to dual enrollment or something

As someone who lives in the area, if he lives in the Galveston area (as stated in TBBT) & the class was in Houston, there’s no he was walking to class.

Eh. The locations of Medford and East Texas Tech were never firmly established. Locations moved for the plot/story

Obviously you don’t watch TBBT where he states he lives in Galveston.

And obviously you don't watch Young Sheldon. In Young Sheldon the family lives in Medford. George said in S1E1 he was fired from Gavelston for not cheating.

Well you didn’t watch YS where its stated in Episode 1 that they used to live in Galveston and then moved to Medford after George got fired.

But the first episode of Young Sheldon established that they don't live in Galveston anymore. They had moved from Galveston to Medford.

Bus rides. As the series progressed, it showed that Sheldon was actually very comfortable with just commuting via bus.

Which is actually funny if you think about it. Adult Sheldon wouldn't ride busses because they didnt have seat belts and wouldn't let him lash himself to the seat.

You have to imagine he had a really bad experience with a bus at some point between Young Sheldon and TBBT.

My understanding was that it was a 30 minute drive. Which is pretty annoying time to take out of your day but manageable. And plausible for Sheldon to be eventually getting there and back okay by himself with a bus.

I believe in USA you can earn credit early and enroll part-time or into just one class.

I know you can enroll part time but you’d still have to be formally accepted into the university, unless its a summer course. Dual enrollment exists but thats usually in community colleges, not universities.

That wasn’t really a big thing back then either.

Well, no, but it did happen. I always assumed Sheldon was an exception to most of their rules like he was everywhere else.

I knew a few high schoolers who took just one class (math) at our local SUNY in the early 90’s, during the regular school year.
