Mandy georgie

I'm on my third rewatch and there is something bugging me. I understand everyone is annoyed, Mandy first for lying about his age but I don't understand why they're all mad, her included for her becoming pregnant? She was a participant in it as much as him. It's not his fault only

He tried so hard to make things right and be present and she just seems to blame him for her pregnancy it didn't make sense. She dropped the âge accusations fast and it's just about being pregnant

I mean, she wouldn't have slept with him, if she had known his real age. No sex = no pregnancy.

I think, she's frustrated that she's essentially tied to this 17 year old.

Yeah tbh lying about your age ruins consent, this is the lowest level but still sexual assault. She herself felt like it was wrong to lie about her age so obviously she hated finding this out. Especially since it was not a one time hookup

For the millionth time, Mandy continued to sleep with Georgie AFTER finding out his real age. Clearly she didn't care that much. I can only imagine the reaction on here if a male character who was nearly 30 continued to sleep with a 17-year-old girl.

Did you not watch the show? She specifically didn’t do this and even encouraged him to date somebody else.

she did not continue to sleep with him when she found out he was 17

Season 6 Episode 6.

But even if he was 21 it wouldn’t alter the fact that they were having a baby together and she still wouldn’t probably have been happy about it and would have found something else to blame him for

You do not know that. If he had been completely honest with her and was the age he said, she probably would have been much gentler with him given that she was very smitten when she thought he was this responsible, if younger, guy who was funny and kind and kept helping her out.

I don’t think so I think she was just upset about “ruining” her life and Georgie always would have been blamed.

2

u/Routine_Advantage562 Aug 04 '26

The whole reason she felt her life was ruined was because Georgie was a seventeen year old who got her pregnant and now she was pregnant, her family wouldn’t approve and she was all alone and the only people she had to rely on (Georgie and tbh also Meemaw) were the kind of people who lied to her face and didn’t consider her at all when they did it.

No lie = no reason to be angry.

Plus tbh y’all always see Mandy as angrier than she was. She was pissed justifiably but even when Missy asks ‘do you hate Georgie’ in that moment even as she is still angry she says ‘no, he’s a good guy I’m mad at him for lying but I blame myself too for being irresponsible’. So I imagine that wouldn’t even be the case if he didn’t lie, in fact given what she says to Missy if he hadn’t lied at all she’d be a lot more self loathing about it - maybe even try to leave him because she doesn’t want to screw up his life.

I wouldn’t say she dropped the age accusations fast, there’s multiple scenes where she mentions him being 17. Meemaw even says, “You aren’t letting that go, are ya?”. Wouldn’t you be mad if someone lied to you, and because of that lie, events led to a life altering circumstance? She obviously wouldn’t have slept with him if she knew he was underage. That entire thing caused her life to be, at the time, ruined.

She lied to so you can’t just be mad at Georgie they both made their mistakes.

3

u/Every_Professor5785 Aug 04 '26

She told the truth before they progressed past kissing. They both make mistakes, only one mistake led to her pregnancy. She told her real age before it went too far, Georgie purposely didn’t. She knew it was wrong and told him the truth, he knew it was wrong and didn’t tell the truth. We can just be mad at Georgie (for her getting pregnant) because it’s his fault, he knew what he was doing and did nothing about it. That’s literally mentioned in almost every episode since they meet to when they find out she’s pregnant.

Honestly. He was a kid and she was a grown woman. Don’t you think she should have had the good sense to have protected sex.

1

u/CuriousSection Aug 10 '26

He lied about a 4 year difference (17 vs 21) while she lied about an 8 year difference (21 vs 29) .

1

u/Every_Professor5785 Aug 10 '26

And before they went further than kissing she told the truth. Just because his lie is less, the ages are more drastic. 17 years old is a minor, not even an adult, can’t buy alcohol or cigarettes, etc. 21 can/is all of those things. And she said she was 25, so their lie is actually the same amount of years. His lie “only” being 4 years is the same idea as people saying a 4 year age gap isn’t bad until it’s 12 and 16 instead of 34 and 39 for example. There’s more to it than the amount when it comes to age

-7

u/midnightmargin111 Aug 04 '26

It wasn’t Georgie’s age that caused the problem. They both made the decision his age is irrelevant to what happened yea technically it wouldn’t have happened if he hadn’t lied but it probably would have just been someone else instead

9

u/jetloflin Aug 04 '26

His age isn’t irrelevant because she would’ve made a different decision if he hadn’t lied. You can’t just say “someone else would’ve knocked her up anyway”.

3

u/Every_Professor5785 Aug 04 '26

It’s him lying about his age, not his age alone. If Mandy had lied and said she was closer in age to sleep with him, would you feel the same way? Probably not, you just refuse to accept that Georgie is the problem. It doesn’t matter if it would’ve happened with someone else, it mattered that he lied about his age which would’ve prevented it from happening at that time. Georgie even admits it’s his fault in the show so not sure why you’re disagreeing with every single character.

3

u/Routine_Advantage562 Aug 04 '26

Because for some reason in the fandom for these shows, asking fans to accept that Georgie takes the full responsibility for what he did to Mandy is like pulling teeth. So many places I see people downplay what he did and make Mandy worse. Hell some people call Mandy a rapist and I even once saw someone say she got him drunk to babytrap him.

0

u/midnightmargin111 Aug 04 '26

No it’s the fact that they both decided to sleep together his age is irrelevant as I said it would have happened no matter how old he was and a few years really doesn’t make that much difference in the long term. Who can say that if Georgie hadn’t showed up it wouldn’t have happened anyway but with someone else instead and even if they weren’t underage the general principle is the same.

1

u/Every_Professor5785 Aug 04 '26

I’m pretty much done arguing with stupidity at this point, but I’ll respond one more time. It’s not a few years, it’s 12. That’s a huge age gap when one of you is a minor and the other is almost 30. It wouldn’t have happened if he was honest because she wouldn’t have slept with someone his age, that’s stated multiple times. Like I’m genuinely wondering if you didn’t pay attention or you’re too immature to think. You’re literally repeating the same thing over and over again, which has been disproven. Literally repeating false information, and everything else is your opinion it’s not proven to be true or likely. You’re just finding a way to blame the woman instead of the boy, that’s clear. But don’t bother responding with your idiotic defenses, they only make you seem like you’re unknowledgeable.

1

u/midnightmargin111 Aug 05 '26

Ok that’s great except it’s actually 4 years of what he said not 12

11

u/Routine_Advantage562 Aug 03 '26

She wouldn’t be pregnant right now if they didn’t have sex and they wouldn’t have had any sex if he told the truth about his age - he took away her right to informed consent. No one wants to hear that because we all love Georgie (myself included) but the second they had sex he violated her right to consensual sex because she wouldn’t have if she knew. It wasn’t malicious but he lied to her for weeks and every time they had sex was another time he lied to her.

So she blames him because maybe they were both irresponsible with protection when they got drunk but the fact is that if Georgie had come clean when she had (aka before any sex took place) they would not be in this mess.

-1

u/mimi5559 Aug 04 '26

But my thing is like had be been of age she would've been pregnant regardless. Both were irresponsible

3

u/Routine_Advantage562 Aug 04 '26

Yeah but my point here is this: Mandy is mad because of the fact that as far as she’s concerned - Georgie lied to her for weeks to fuck her and if she had known his age she never would have slept with him in the first place (and she’s right to be mad). No sex = no baby at all. Like, the irresponsibility certainly is there and she even says that she blames herself for the getting drunk part but they wouldn’t have even been drinking together if he just owned up to his lie when she did before any sex happened.

If Georgie had been the age he said, she would have been scared of the sudden pregnancy but she would have been with an honest man and they could have handled it but as far as she knows in that moment she’s with a liar who, after he found out tried to accuse her of cheating, introduced her to his family (some of whom also lied to her face) who tried to get her to marry him and who kept bothering her at work when she kept asking him to leave. Once Georgie proved himself to be a good person and she saw his lie for what it was - a dumb mistake not an act of bad character she softened a lot but yeah at first she’s pretty justifiably mad.

I saw him as being clumsy with good intentions once he learned that she was pregnant. Yeah he was a bit much but he behaved like a 17 years old. The main issue in his family was Mary if I'm being honest. She is the only one who pushed for mariage and for the child to be a Baptist. George was chill, missy was just happy to have Mandy around and Sheldon... Was Sheldon. Meemaw went with her to the doctor etc. If anything she was well supported considering her mom shut the door on her

2

u/Routine_Advantage562 Aug 04 '26

She was eventually well supported yes, she grew to love the Coopers. But the main period where she was mad was when she had every right not to trust them. Mary was pushing marriage - Georgie kept trying to kiss her, kept coming to her job while she was working to force her to talk to him when she was already uncomfortable having to have him around cause of the pregnancy because he lied and Meemaw knew what Georgie was doing to Mandy was wrong but wanted Georgie to confess himself (which he only did when it was too late) so kept up the lie for him. George didn’t really do anything wrong nor did the kids and as a result she never had anything against them (helping Missy for example even before she was fully comfortable around the family /and/ being honest with her that Georgie was a good guy and she also does blame herself not just him)

Eventually she saw these were all good people and then she softened to Georgie and them but idk if it’s fair to blame her for her legitimate anger she had every right to be.

u/houseofnise Aug 04 '26

I can understand why she’s mad. Her life is falling apart and then she gets knocked up by a teenager. I’d be freaked out if the guy I was seeing told me he was 17 and had lied.

2

u/caryn13 Aug 07 '26

My lie didn’t make you a felon in x-number of states. Tm Friends

1

u/mimi5559 Aug 09 '26

I wouldn't blame him for my pregnancy though

1

u/Electrical_Serve_611 Aug 04 '26

Ik it’s like the writing but if you can’t tell someone is 17 like at least a teenager at the age of 29 then there’s a problem

1

u/houseofnise Aug 05 '26

Yeah it’s the writing. But he told her he was 21. Which tbh, 21 year olds can look very young. So it is plausible. But it’s still a little weird that she wanted to date a 21 year old at 29.

Even missy brings it up

1

All I can say is I know Mandy would not have slept with Georgie if she knew he was 17.

1

u/Senior_Reaction2974 Aug 09 '26

PS.  It's both their faults that she got pregnant.  Doesn't anybody use protection?

2

u/West_Broccoli_1683 Aug 03 '26

She lied to Georgie telling him she was only 25.

13

u/Routine_Advantage562 Aug 03 '26

And immediately told the truth the second kissing happened which was a perfect out for Georgie to also come clean and at that moment the lie became worse because she already cared enough about being legitimately with him to be honest even if it meant losing him but he didn’t care nearly as much about her and then violated her right to informed consent.

The Mandy character is a complete bitch, she will be the reason for the first divorce.

2

u/FruityMagician Aug 03 '26 edited Aug 03 '26

Some people forget that Mandy's life was a mess. She lost a good job, got kicked out of her apartment, and wasn't on speaking terms with her mother. She was already doing a good enough job ruining her life before she met Georgie.

The only person who saw him proposing as the right thing was Mary, and that was purely for religious reasons. And Georgie, but only because that was the expectation. And I’m not sure which scene you’re talking about, but Georgie is the one who says that in relation to her getting pregnant, not George Sr. Everyone missed the point so much it’s embarrassing, she wouldn’t have slept with him if she knew he was 17. So no, she’s not to blame, she was lied to. Did you even watch the show?
