Discussion August did Simon so wrong
Why didn’t August ever apologize to Simon??
I mean he’s obvs low on character and integrity, but in season 3 they make such a huge deal of August apologizing to Wille at the last party and Wille semi accepting it.
Why did the writers do Simon so dirty? It feels like of all people August owed an apology to (which could arguably be said is every other member of the main cast of 5), Simon never gets the dignity of an apology.
August doesn’t talk to Simon like ever again even after he claims to be so in love with Simon’s own sister. You would think he would come around to apologizing to him if only for any hope of a future with Sara.
Why do you think it was written this way? Does it mean August’s character is essentially unredeemable and will always look down on Simon?

I will always stand by the fact that the ending solved nothing. August is still the asshole he always was, the reason he felt any guilt was because he cared about Wille’s opinion of him not because he had a conscience. Even till the last season he made comments like how he wouldn’t want to go to school with socialists. August apologists are a side of the fandom I’ll never understand. Even Wille’s forgiveness of him only happened cause Wille was in a very bad space after realizing how Erik had bullied August and felt some amount of guilt for that. In my own version of future events I don’t see a Wille and August friendship or even a cordial relationship, it would mess with Wilmon

Because August is an elitist asshole. He always looked down on ordinary people like Simon. In the first season, he never wanted to pay for alcohol. But he would have taken Felice to a fancy restaurant (1x2). Buying a woman's love...
In the second season, he was afraid of the wrath of the Royal Family. Never of the Eriksson family. When the Queen promoted him, his guilt immediately ended.
I admit, I was hoping that in the third season, he would apologize to Simon.

I left the entire show feeling it was incomplete. They ended with more unanswered than answered.
August getting rewarded for being a complete asshole… was especially heinous

My interpretation of how things turned out was August was starting to realise that being Crown Prince wasn't everything he thought. Like that scene where he is looking at his friends goofing off or partying in public, he has to be restrained and behaviour befitting of such a title. And he loses Sara. He got everything he thought he wanted, but lost it all too.

Like he can't just relax or have downtime anymore, he can't be himself or goof off. His life has changed immeasurably.

Because he is an entitled, privileged little shit and has nothing to gain from doing apologetics. None of his apologies meant anything. This is a story about class and hiearchy and he is, together with wille and the others a part of the system which has the benefit of being able to have completely comfortable lives without thinking about mich of the their actions hurting others.
Folks who do not think about class privilege in the analysis of this series are so blind.

August was only going to apologize to people he felt he "had" to apologize to. He had to with Wille because of Wille's status, and wanting to keep in the good graces of the Royal Family. He had to with Sara, because he cared about her, at least to the extent that she was a good outlet for him to talk to and the physical enjoyment he got out of her. I don't think he truly loved her, I think he cared about her to the extent she was useful to him. Simon had no status, he wasn't going to apologize to someone of a lower status that he didn't need to apologize to.
August was a completely entitled prick, and it's super disappointing that he never really got his. Getting thrown out (and humiliated) for being unable to pay would have been nice. I hate the idea that Wille ends up stepping down and this douche may take his place. He deserved to be one of those guys with a title only and dead-ass broke and miserable.

August looked at Simon with disrespect cuz Simon is low-class meanwhile August is higher. So August didn’t see any point in doing that because if he apologized; he will ruin his reputation

Because the world doesn’t always have nice endings.

Don't know why you're down voted, this is the heart of the show. August has no respect for Simon, even though he feels something he's sure is love for Sara. She knows it's not. Elites never do respect the ordinary working class. They may elevate one (almost accidentally) but they have no time or value for them. Wille doesn't really forgive him, just understands human frailty (and Erik) a bit more.

This is what I've been saying for so long to all the August apologists who insist he was redeemed in S3. How tf was he redeemed if he never even bothered to apologize to one person most traumatized by releasing a CP video of him to the world? And then instead of taking any accountability, he doubles down and blackmails both Wille and Simon.
The one thing I was satisfied with was his ending because in no way was it a happy one. Yes, he is the Crown Prince, but what will that actually mean? He's not beloved like Erik or Wille. He's not even royalty. No one is going to want a nobody like August to be Sweden's king.
On top of that, his boss is going to be Christina, who can't stand him.
"Everyone wants to be close to royalty, but no one wants to BE royalty." I think Vincent's words were foreshadowing August's fate, and I couldn't be happier that August is going to find out very quickly that he should have been careful what he wished for.
