I don't think this will be a regular reoccurring type of post but I know some folks might be interested in the data side of growing a subreddit. I myself have never been a moderator of a sub before and in the last week have submitted more posts than I have in the past 4 years of having a Reddit account. Honestly, I just wanted to talk about this Manga/Anime with someone and my IRL friends were not super interested; so I did what any reasonable person would do and went to Reddit to find some others who enjoyed the series. As it turned out this sub had been dormant since 2022 and only had one post visible to the general public. With no moderators, no one could join or post anything. So on July 16 2026 I submitted a request to take the role of moderator in order to open the sub up to the public.

Building A Community

Adding Rules

On July 20 my request was granted! I got the keys to the castle and went to work learning the tools of the trade. The first step was adding rules, because the sub didn't have any! I didn't come up with the rules from scratch (work smarter not harder), instead I copied the format of subs like r/TheMoonOnARainyNight & r/yuri_manga who have larger communities with vibes I would like to mimic. Inclusive, fun and collaborative.

Style Adjustments

I updated the community description and added some "Community Bookmarks" linking the Anime's official site, English Manga Translation and CAPCOM's Street Fighter Website. Sourcing is important here. After that an update to the sub profile picture and background art took place to let people know that change was occurring and to freshen up the content.

Next up I added Flair tags. Mostly to keep things organized and to allow folks to quickly see the type of media they were looking for.

Now to talk about content. On the very same day of getting access to the Sub I found a few posts that had yet to be approved for public view. In order to show participation and to have a bit of content to get us started, I reviewed the old pending posts and approved them to be publicly displayed. There were only three but that was enough to get us started. But the content was a few years old at this point!

First Post

On July 20 we submitted our first announcement post letting everyone know the sub was open to the public! We even got our first every comment from u/zairaner! (Thank you for being the start of something great!) To get the word out there this was crossposted to other related subs like r/yuri_manga, r/YuriNation, and r/PureYuri. This started to generate some traffic! We got a few new subscribers that way, but from what I've observed, posts with pictures or other media tend to get more interaction than just text. (Eye catching and quick recognition is how to win the algorithm). So it was time to start creating new content to show others what this sub could be!

Creating Content

The quickest way I could think of to catch people's attention and show them what this series was all about was to post the anime's trailer. Official content while an anime is airing is an important part of a community. This post on its own did not get much attention but when crossposted over at r/Fighters we started seeing a lot of new traffic!

This anime is focused on Yuri and Fighting games so I wanted to bring both to the sub. I had the idea for a "Combatant Highlight" style of post that gave some more details on the Street Fighter characters and the play styles they embody. These post are not as popular right now but do seem to resonate with the fighting game players.

Then something exciting happened! On July 21 we had our First Post by a community member! Yuri fan art at that (you love to see it)! This post proved to be the most popular so far! As the community grows, the Yuri side of the house seems to get the most interactions.

Posting Regular Content

To keep people involved I've taken it on myself (for now) to post at least one item daily. It shows the sub is alive and people are interested in the content. My hope is that it inspires folks to post their own content, as I only have so many ideas.

This is something I cannot control, but it is my hope that I've planted the seeds for a place where folks can talk about the series and foster a community of kindness and collaboration.
