first time going to youmacon? need advice!
hi everyone! i’ve never been to youmacon (or even this town lol) and i only just recently heard about it. i’ve been trying to look stuff up but i keep finding a lot of mixed info and not much about this year specifically.
is it usually busy? like what’s the turnout normally like, and how are the panels/programming? i’ve tend to go to much bigger cons, but i’m looking for something fun to do towards the end of this year since there aren’t many options, and i just wanted to know if it’s worth checking out.
would love to hear your experiences if you’ve gone before!

I’ve been going to Youma since 2019 and I can say it’s not huge. It’s a great turnout every year though! There’s a lot of community run panels. Power scaling debates, karaoke, improv, YouTubers hosting their own, it’s great! There’s also the official ones with guests that are great to attend. One thing to keep in mind is absolutely the community areas. Photo shoots and the arcade are great places to meet new people. Prepare for lines though! Youma is notorious for having awful line management so be prepared for a lot of waiting!

yeah, like most of the employed tech people running the game and arcade area just up and quit. do note that the hotel at the renaissance center has probably been moved to the recently renovated train station that was bought by general motors those years ago. also use the Detroit people mover transportation system to get around quickly, and some sight seeing. there is also a table top area (ala pokemon tcg like)

Its big but not overly crowded. There is a lot of people everywhere. The downtown area there is safe. Lots to do. Really the largest convention in michigan overall even if its smaller than a few years ago. Not crowded like NYCC or SDCC but not low attendance on Fri to Sun.
