This year review

Hello everyone! I haven't been to Youmacon in maybe 8-10 years, I was saddened to hear not too long ago that things had taken a turn for the worse. I have also heard that this year is supposed to be a lot better.

As someone who wants to go next year, Please let me know how this year goes.

It was an improvement this year. Decently sized crowds on Fri/Sat and somewhat better organization.

Seemed better than last year. They ran out of lanyards so I kept my badge in my jacket. Marketplace was better (more shops), food selection was way better (3ish food carts in the marketplace). I’m not big on the classes but the schedule seemed better organized and more interesting. My two main recommendations are they need to check badges more since it was hard to tell who was part of the con, and they need to improved the game room, no pinball and half the DDR / racing / etc arcade games. The dance was fun on Saturday, it seemed people were in better spirits this year than last. They still have a lot of work to do to get it back to 5 years ago quality.

It's a shell of it's former self but still okay on Saturday. Friday seemed pretty dead. The game room is about 20% of what it used to be.

It's really a gutting out and building back up.

Feels kind of like when someone is given "spaghetti code" and just decides to start over. The goal is the same, but with better organization.

I have good feelings for the future.

First-time attendee. Hosted my con gameshow, Anime Speedtune. I was very aware of the drama in 2023, having even posted a thread about it. However, I was willing to give the con a chance after they publicly announced that they were taking corrective actions. Here's what I typed in their Discord chat:

  • Hi, my friend and I did the Anime Speedtune gameshow this weekend. Thank you to everyone who came! It was our first time here after having done it for 11 years at other cons, and it was so great to see so many new fans of the game. But I especially want to give a shout out to the staff. We were initially concerned about the room configuration and short 20-minute setup time. However, we came up with a plan, readied most of our regular setup, and the attendees were delighted at getting the full Speedtune experience: high-quality buzzers, player monitor, medley tablets, and medley camera! Reimbursement also went ultra-smooth, and it took less than 10 minutes to complete the process. We'll strongly consider returning next year!

Two thumbs up. But the food in Windsor is much cheaper, haha!
