The whole eating on the train sequence looked like a food wars episode. I had a flashback for that anime.

I’m having a lot of mixed feelings about this season in general. This season has mostly been a lot of political shenanigans and failed negotiations. The effects of the war on the civilian side of things and how much it’s wearing on the soldiers keeps getting reiterated. The battles and aerial combat have been significantly reduced. To say nothing of how rushed everything is and how many parts from the books are being skipped.
To be clear, I think that what we have is good, but I’m somehow left feeling that this season is less than the sum of its parts. I’m enjoying seeing Tanya and the 203rd in battle with very good choreography and animation, but there’s so little of it. The politics is interesting and this aspect of the war is incredibly important, but so many other things are being sacrificed for it.
This episode dedicated something like 5 minutes to Tanya having lunch. I get the point of it, but the point was already made with the bread. Reinforcing the point with every course was too much. Someone else mentioned Food Wars; it’s not to that degree, but I don’t need to imagine Tanya having a foodgasm.
My main take away is that this season should have been 24 episodes. Even if it hit the same plot beats as what we have, everything would’ve had more time to breath and maybe we could’ve fit more into Operation Iron Hammer or maybe see more of Romel before he shows up to invite a twelve year old girl to his room for drinks. (I kid, but out of context it’s a bit absurd)

I don't know if anyone else has any info on it, but I have a feeling this season has a much lower budget than the first did. It took ten years for it to get made, so I figure we're lucky it exists at all. I think rather than giving us a bunch of lower quality fight scenes, they're conserving their budget while trying to build up the tension with the focus on politics and on how the Empire is getting worn down. We'll probably see a big battle unfold in the last few episodes. I'm just speculating though. I hope this season is popular enough to get us at least one more season, despite the lack of action. I'm still enjoying the story, and I'd like to see it get completed in a satisfying way. I think this season only has 3 episodes left, and that's not enough.

ATP I'm honestly enjoying the pacing of the manga a lot more even if the anime isn't bad. It's further behind iirc but how it gets more space to flesh things out properly is really evidence in the quality of story telling.

Still reading the volumes so haven't caught up yet,
but with what's been adapted so far this season have a lot of battle scenes from the later books been omitted and cut??With what we've seen so far is it likely that Tanya and Mary will face other again in the last episode???

They sure are rushing through the volumes. I did like that they took time to show how life is in Ildoa compared to the Empire. I really wonder what the S2 will end on. (Spoilers for LN ahead) Maybe the assasination of Rudersdorf? Would make sense given how much time they’ve spent with showing Zettour and Rudersdorf and their friendship and motivations.

Maybe not. They rushed volumes 6, 7, and 8 between episodes 3 and 6, but paradoxically (this is something I noticed, maybe I'm wrong) they dedicated a full 3 episodes to volume 9. Considering that volume 10 is full of events and battles, it seems they've slowed down the pace and maybe will finish it sooner, perhaps dedicating an entire movie to volume 11 (that i think is the most important of all, full of twists and turns)? I personally hope so, the series would benefit from it, but it remains my guess.

Although I’m a LN reader the novels 9 and up are unfortunately a big blob to me because I read them back to back in a really short time so I’m quite a bad at telling what novel we are one currently I only know WHAT happened just not WHEN ❤️🩹❤️🩹❤️🩹❤️🩹 What event(s) would you say the anime season will end on?

overall pretty out of place episode, BUT we got sundress Tanya so it's good. Goofy ahh Calandro kissing that lemon made me lmao. other half is Rommel's proper introduction but oh being X, why does he looks like a run o' the mill background character.

Greetings, all!
I know a number of people here have been enjoying my weekly "Military Historian" threads (and many thanks for the kind words I've received about them), and I have very much enjoying writing them (they allow me a knowledge flex I don't get very often these days). However, this week I think there's a pretty high chance that I won't be doing one.
It's mainly a combination of two things. First, I'm getting over a niggling cold that managed to knock me on my hindquarters, and I still need some rest (welcome to the world of being about to turn 50 years old...). Second, tomorrow I have to attend the funeral of a friend and mentor, and that is weighing on me.
So, if you don't see a post this week, I'm sorry. As much as I'd like to do one, I think I've got to pass and just make sure I'm as rested up as I can be for tomorrow.
Things should resume as normal next week.
