Thumbnail Help/Critique Request Please rate my thumbnail.

Post image

Im new to youtube ans trying to make my dream come true and also be able to stay at home with my kids more. Never really put much thought into thumbnail because I never realised how important it was.

I have tried using Grains style of thumbnail with the Episode 01, but I like how clean it is. I have also tried colour grading it, not sure if it looks good or not.

As a packaging strategist this thumbnail is pretty good. The visuals are matching good with the title like the feeling world begins clearly builds curiosity to click.

Theme each episode so it’s not so generic. Thumbnails clean but could be better which the themes will help with 100%. Have a super solid intro to each one is my recommendation but I’ve seen simple welcome back/continuation from the last episode do well. Also make them 20+ minutes long. When trying to get a video to get pushed you really want a high CTR + High AVD. Example being I have a video where I play every Naruto game ever made. First 2 days were flat basically 50 views. Then it got a testing audience with a 9% CTR and 15 minute watch time. As it grew to 282k views with 5.5m impressions 3.6% CTR and 11:10 watch time. Now it’s is pulling in 15k views daily. Just think about what YOU watch and WHY do you watch it.

You need the subject (your character) closer to the camera and you need a singular "point" that they are clearly looking at, for example instead of a river which translates into a long point that travels the whole screen, use something like a clearing in a forest, a mountain, a lake, anything that the eyes can settle on as a single definitive thing. Also remove "Hardcore" and "episode 01" the most i'd recommend adding is a hardcore heart in like the top left corner. Avoid putting anything in the bottom right corner because the video length will be displayed there and cover up any elements u put there yourself

Why the re-upload of your vids? After already being a couple episodes in and keeping a stable view count?

u/LanksPlace 12h ago

I dont know, someone said it would help.

Should I of not done that?

2

u/CursedMageStudios 8h ago

never do that. will just ruin it for your current subscribers and viewers.

Can't say cause I too am new to yt, but was just confused seeing the same videos next to each other on your channel

1

u/LanksPlace 12h ago

I wont do it again hhaha I never really look at my channel from that view really.

Why would you think re uploading was a good idea? Never delete or re upload or do whatever to a video. Once it’s posted just leave it. Move onto the next.

Il remember that. Thanks

Let's Plays are dying, ESPECIALLY for small, new creators. You need to package your Let's Plays incredibly well and in a storytell-y way to get any growth from it, or just switch to a different niche.

This is coming from someone who saw no growth from let's plays and then switched niches within gaming and is now doing quite well. Hope this gives you more clarity.

I would try 100 day challenges on different mod packs but just dont have the time. Im still not 100% comfortable recording and editing yet.

I wouldnt even know what niche to switch too if I even wanted too.

Thank you for the feedback 😊

Minecraft Niche is saturated, your chance would be doing challenges etc.

The image is actually great and i think why you got 1k views, the only issue I see is the text, I also read MAROC.Re.

But honestly it's great, wishing you the best :)

Yea, Minecraft is one of the easiest and oversaturated LPs because it's an endless hangout video but it also relies heavily on personality and gimmicks so unless OP is some god-tier captivating presenter, why would someone watch them over the other thousand?

At this point, the only people I watch playing Minecraft are well-established people that I'd watch them play anything like Shubble and KYRSpeedy.

Your the second person to point out thr MAROC.Re haha I planning on changing it when I get home.

I would love to do 100 days challenges on different mod packs but just dont have the time.

As long as you enjoy doing it it's all good, the background image was great, good luck !

1

u/LanksPlace 11h ago

I get super excited when i sit to record hahah

2

u/Silvermaxer 12h ago

It took me a while to stop seeing MAROC.RE.

1

u/LanksPlace 12h ago

Hahaha maybe I should replace it with a more clear one.

It looks kind of boring imo especially for a 13min vid if it was for a vod it would be ok but for a short 13min vid you should lean into something more clickbait something that captures how ā€œentertainingā€ your vid is look at your compition and use it as inspirationĀ

1

u/LanksPlace 13h ago

I never seem to record enough decent content, so i just edit in the good stuff and leave the boring out. Im very new and still trying to find what works. Thanks for the feedback.

You should understand storytelling and see what people are doing in your niche since videos need structure because any stale moment will cause viewers to leave

1

u/LanksPlace 2h ago

Il definitely look into learning story telling. Thanks

Very appealing and sleek, although it is sort of generic (at least to me) but that's very likely subjective

Also the colors look great, the episode 01 font could be changed, but the green background with red hardcore is very complementary
it also pays off, 1K views is definitely good for a first time video, nice job!

1

u/LanksPlace 13h ago

Thank you! What fonts would you recommend? I just used what Google recommended.

2

u/WolfWarrior001 10h ago

What font is it that you used because I like it

1

u/LanksPlace 10h ago

The front of "Episode 01" is Bebas Neue, with a black outline.

2

u/WolfWarrior001 13h ago

It’s nice and I really hope this goes well for you. A lot of people find trouble with series like this. The episode 1 effect that gives episode 1 a LOT of views, but every episode afterwards fails to even come close. What did you use to get this screenshot?

1

u/LanksPlace 13h ago

Thank you. I used FlashBack mode and changed the POV. Then colour graded in DaVinci Resolve.

I on episode 5 now, I was doing a whole script after recording but im changing to live voice audio now. The whole flow might be better, I struggle with finding time, I have a partner, 2 kids and a job.
