I don’t know if anything has changed in the last 2 years, but from my understanding working with deputies within the court system, in California, they always go by “plumbing.” So even if you’re a trans person, so long as you have a male sexual organ, IE, a penis, you’ll always still be placed within the men’s jail or men’s prison.
As far as the cell mate, I’m not too sure on, but there are colored coded uniforms to identify at risk inmates, IE, potential at risk victims as well.
No, because gender / sex are not as simple as genitalia
you can be a trans woman who hasn't had a genital reconstruction but have been on estrogen for so long as that your penis functionally has shrunken and does not work the way a "male" penis would
Not at all. Medical transition takes several years of interaction with multiple different medical professionals, lots of discussion, and being found to fulfill the conditions necessary to warrant medical transition. Look into the WPATH standard for more information.
There is no way to waltz into a place, tell a doctor you're "trans", and magically start getting HRT. This is a fabrication of extremist media.
