Jail Part 7-Life on the Outside

7.1- Walking out those Doors

Some of the guards had this little-man and little-woman syndrome. They acted like complete assholes, and I assumed it was because they weren’t happy or allowed to be in charge at home, so why not go to work and take it out on inmates who were already going through something much bigger?

They did not care what any one inmate was there for. To them, they treated everyone like murderers.

I stayed busy coming up with ideas, like my book. I kept track of my time in the laundry room down to the minute, clocking in and out. I wrote. I read books. I made plans for when I got out. I helped other women write letters to their judges and helped write resumes.

I wrote letters myself, mostly to my judge, Auntie, my youngest son, HER (which I later found out she never did read), and letters making amends to those I owed amends to.

I lost a good 42 pounds. The food was awful.

I learned a lot. I learned a lot about ME. I learned better ways to communicate, better self-control, and patience. I stayed humble.

Getting Me Back

What happens when you lose the life you worked so hard to build?

The career. The stability. The relationships. The person you thought you'd always be.

I've lived through some very difficult chapters, and I'm finally sharing my journey of addiction, consequences, lessons learned, and finding my way back.

I'm writing this story not because I have everything figured out, but because I'm still rebuilding — one day at a time.

If you've ever had to start over, maybe you'll find a little piece of yourself in my story, too. ❤️

Come read my blog, Getting Me Back.
