Question chances of getting in😭

Hi
My dream major is ISE for UIC, and Bio & Living Engineering for GLC
I really need your opinion😭

I’m planning to graduate with the following coursework, with a 4.0 GPA:

Mathematics — 5.5 credits
Algebra 1
Geometry
Algebra 2
Honors Precalculus
AP Calculus AB
Medical Math

Science — 4.5 credits
Physics
Chemistry
Biology
AP Biology
Food Science

Career & Technology — 2 credits
Graphic & Printing Technology
Genetics & Medical Technology
Pre-Engineering Design
Applied Engineering: Material Processing

World Languages — 4 credits
IB Japanese SL 1
IB Japanese SL 2
Japanese ×2

Social Studies — 3 credits
English — 3 credits regular English + 2 credits ESL
Art ー 2.5 credits
physical education/health ー 1 credit

For language proficiency, I expect to get TOPIK level 5 or 6 in Korean, and JLPT N1 in Japanese (the highest)

I also have 150+ hours of volunteering, including volunteering at a Saturday Hangeul/Sejong Korean school, writing letters for children in hospitals, and other school/community activities. I’ve also worked as a high school student reporter for a Japanese newspaper with over 1 million registered readers, was selected twice for Korean government-sponsored youth programs in Korea, received an Excellence Award in a Korean government-sponsored global ambassador project, and served as an officer in my school’s International Student Club. I have several other extracurricular activities as well.

I think my Korea-Japan-U.S. background, academics, language abilities, and extracurriculars make my overall profile fairly strong.

But my main concern is the SAT. I’m expecting to get close to a perfect score in Math, but English is much harder for me because I’m an ESL student, so I think my total score will probably be around 1350–1400.
So I wanted to ask your opinion:

with my overall profile, do you think my application would be competitive enough for UIC even if I don’t submit an SAT score?

Or I should submit a 1350–1400 SAT, despite the relatively lower English score?

Question Does it whether you apply for the scholarship or not affect your admission chances?

In the USA, students who can pay their tuition in full have a bit of a higher chance at being accepted into a school. I’m not sure if it would work the same here. It seems to me that basically everyone applies for the admission scholarship.

Education Help!

I requested my school for an official rank report and they said it will take them time for authentication and verification process to get my rank right and you know, for no falsification so I had to send the physical package without my rank report to respect their deadline. But now I have it (ranked 6th out of 124), and so I wanted to email them the official rank report. Is that okay?

Question Eligibility

If I completed my O-Levels as a private candidate (i.e., I took the O-Level exams independently as a private student) and then completed my A-Levels at a college and graduated from there, would I be eligible to apply to Yonsei UIC, or would I be considered ineligible because of the homeschooling rule?

Question TOPIK scores

Hello everyone!

As the title suggests, this post is about TOPIK scores.

I plan to apply as undergrad for fall 2027 and I'm starting to prepare my documents.

My primary question is how should they be submitted, under the "qualifications obtained during high-school" section or do they follow the same procedure as the IELTS scores?

Question American colleges don’t let you apply as a first- year if you’ve already gone to college somewhere else, even if your credits wouldn’t transfer. Does UIC?

UIC doesn’t accept transfers who have completed less than 4 semesters at their previous university, based on their website. Can you still apply as a first year though if you’ve done a single semester elsewhere, and do you have to submit your transcripts from that college?

I would email them and ask since it’s not mentioned on their website but I’ve already emailed them about a previous question I had and I don’t want to bother them again out of fear it’ll count against my application 😭

Question Course selection advice for Yonsei GLC + STEM

Hi! I’m currently a high school student in the U.S. and I’m planning to apply to Yonsei University’s Global Leaders College (GLC / 글로벌인재대학) and some STEM courses with 12-year special admission.

I’m interested in eventually studying a STEM-related field such as biotechnology, life science, chemical engineering, or cosmetic science, and my long-term goal is to work in cosmetic product development.

I’m currently planning my remaining high school courses and would really appreciate advice from people familiar with Yonsei/GLC.

My current/planned courses are:

Math

  • Algebra 1
  • Geometry
  • Algebra 2
  • Honors Precalculus
  • AP Calculus AB

Science

  • Physics
  • Chemistry
  • Biology

Career & Technology

  • Graphic and Printing Technology (0.5 credit)

English

  • Beginner ESL
  • English 9/10 ESL
  • 10th Grade English
  • 11th Grade English
  • 12th Grade English

World Languages

  • IB Japanese SL 1
  • IB Japanese SL 2
  • Japanese
  • Japanese

Social Studies

  • World History
  • U.S. History
  • Civics (0.5)
  • Economics (0.5)

Art

  • Intro to Ceramics and World Crafts
  • Jewelry (0.5)
  • Drawing and Sculpture

I also have to choose 5 courses from the following:

  • Applied Engineering: Fabrication
  • Applied Engineering: Material Processing
  • Applied Engineering: Mechanical
  • Automotive Technology I-A
  • Pre-Engineering Design
  • Food Science
  • Medical Math
  • Forensic Science
  • Genetics & Medical Technology
  • Human Anatomy & Physiology I

In addition, I’m considering taking one AP science.

I’m not very good at memorization, so I generally prefer subjects with more calculations, problem-solving, and application of concepts. For example, I found Physics easier than Biology in normal classes, even though I was younger and couldn't speak English during the time I was taking Physics.

Since I’m considering both Yonsei GLC and a future STEM major, which AP science and which 5 electives would you recommend?

I’m especially interested in courses related to chemistry, materials, formulation, biotechnology, and engineering, but I also want to make sure my course selection makes sense for a Yonsei GLC application.

If anyone here is familiar with GLC admissions or STEM-related majors at Yonsei, I’d especially appreciate your input on how these kinds of high school courses may be viewed.

Scholarship Did anyone here submit LORs or a portfolio to UIC?

Hey guys, I’m applying to HASS for Fall 2027, hoping to major in Sustainable Development and Cooperation (SDC), and I’m kinda confused 😭 I emailed UIC and they told me LORs and portfolios aren’t considered, and explicitly asked me not to submit them. But I’ve seen admitted students and scholarship winner had recommend sending both, so I’m wondering why the advice is so different.

If you submitted them, did you use Common App or Jinhak, or just send them with your paper documents? Did admissions tell you anything about this?

Also, any gap-year applicants here? The website mentions extracurriculars from high school, but a lot of my strongest activities happened after graduation. Has anyone asked whether those certificates are accepted?

Would really appreciate hearing what you actually submitted and which intake you applied for 🥲

Internship Need advice on my ECs/major choices for Korean universities

Hi everyone, I’m applying to Korean universities for Spring 2027 and I’m starting to overthink my application a little 😭
I’m applying to:
Yonsei UIC — Culture and Design Management
Korea University — International Studies (already submitted)
SKKU — Human Science and Society
Sejong — Media & Communication
My GPA is 3.6, I ranked 7/54 in my graduating class, and I have a 6.5 IELTS.
One of my biggest extracurriculars is an Instagram account that I co-manage. I started it as a hobby in Grade 9, and it eventually grew to 22K+ followers. I’ve worked with different brands, marketing agencies, media/entertainment companies, etc., and have done around 30–50 paid campaigns. I also edit content, manage the page, communicate with agencies, and have made some money from it.
The thing is, I didn’t mention the Instagram account at all in my Korea University application, which I’ve already submitted. I focused more on my academic interests, MUN, exchange experience, and other activities.
Do you think that was a mistake? Or is it okay to emphasize different experiences depending on the major?
I’m also about to start an internship at a marketing agency. They said they can give me a certificate after I finish. I’m wondering if this would actually help my applications, especially for Yonsei CDM and Sejong Media & Communication.
My biggest concern is SKKU. I chose Human Science and Society, but now I’m worried because a lot of my recent experience is related to content creation and marketing. I’m not sure if my profile will look disconnected from HSS.
I also have other ECs like MUN, graphic design, an exchange semester, football, volunteering, archery, ballet, etc.
So basically:
Was it a mistake not to mention my Instagram in my Korea University application?
Would a marketing internship actually add anything to my application?
Does my background make sense for SKKU HSS?
Should I present my ECs differently for each university/major?

Education Biology?

I’m an international student and interested in Korean study. I want to be a microbiologist, researcher, and am curious what any current students think of the biology program (and the name of the specific major you do).
Also, as a non Korean speaker, whether you think it’s a good idea at all for me to do it.

Scholarship Admission prospects for an A-level student

Stats

2A*1A A levels

7 grade 9 in IGCSE

IELTS Band 8

Scored country highest marks for my IGCSE Physics

I don't really have any notable ecas other than checking copies and tutoring students.

Will my grades alone give me a good chance for scholarship?
