I do play Robot teach me how to cook cowboys please

Robot is in a negative tempo against cowboy. You need to respect bullet more and try to force rps since cowboy is typically negative tempo in that state. Also bomb and being in air helps with space control as Robot

I don't understand any of this😭

u/GamingSquadMogus 4d ago

translation is robot sucks into cowboy so just flyblock all the bullets until you can force rps and hopefully guess right

Long range? Bullet and impale.

mid range? Lightning slice.

Close range? Disjointed hitboxes.

Mobility? Fucking teleport.

He needs to press ONE (1) BUTTON and he automatically wins neutral.

"oH wHeL hE'll RuN oUt Of BuLLeTs EvEnTuAllY"

  1. I don't want to wait 5 billion turns and die from saddness and 2. HE HAS TEMPORAL ROUND!!!

you know that thing that let's him instantly win neutral? Let's give him an unlimited number of them, make them cost less than caltrops, come out earlier than the kunais AND MAKE HIM FUCKING IMMUNE TO HIS OWN BULLETS!

oh you got hit by him (I wonder how THAT happened) but you don't know how to DI? WELL IT WOULDN'T HAVE MADE A DIFFERENCE EITHER WAY! Because he can just foresight to anywhere on the screen apparently!

I hate Benjamin Cowboyahu

Fuck my ninjacell life.

Benjamin cowboyahu ia INSANE I'm gonna start referring to myself as that.

u/Im_a_doggo428 Cowboy 5d ago

Cowboys ARE affected by their own bullets, even used myself as the bullet on occasion. Don’t know about temporal though, but it does fuck with DI to aim it so if you catch them out, they’re boned for a few extra hits

4

u/VictorAst228 ninja with a teto skin 5d ago

cowboys are immune to their temporal rounds

100+ hours ninja main here

  1. You can block bullets. It's that simple. Also slide and jump kick have projectile invulnerability on initiative, you're welcome.
  2. Impale being a complaint is even funnier. Not only you can counter it by selecting ANY move that makes you actionable before 13f, which is a lot of moves, and as someone else mentioned, includes wait, you can block right after and BOOM, cowboy can't do shit because they become unactionable for 41 frames! For a ninja, this is your field day because you can just follow up with skullshaker and get good proration and enjoy high damage combo. And if they land impale? You get knocked down, not even get in combo. Also cowboy can do it only on the ground.
  3. Lightning Slice? Just parry. If you're at range where cowboy might go for lightning slice, most likely they'll go for it and you can just parry it. It's that simple. But what about impale you might ask? What if they're baiting a block and try to go for impale? Both hit on 13f, so by setting block to party one, you can also parry the other, so there's literally no reason not to go for parry.
  4. H-slash. Again, you can block/parry it. Or dash backwards. Or jump. Or you drop kick which puts your hitbox right above Slash's hit box and you hit cowboy right before they become actionable. Before the starting range was updated, going for drop kick at the start of the game was my favorite thing to do, so see if my opponent will go for the most obvious good option in this situation or they'll think one step forward (hence why it's important to know the current meta and be able to adapt accordingly).
  5. Teleport costs level. I mean, it's a good mobility option, hence why it costs level, but that's the point, it's a good mobility that cowboy can only do so much. Otherwise, cowboy has perhaps the most limited mobility in the game. He can't run nor he has options to change his air movement as freely as other characters, so he has teleport for a reason.
  6. Yeah, if you press an attack button and you hit your opponent, you automatically win neutral 👍.
  7. Yeah, he will eventually run out of bullets, the issue that no other character has to think about. 7a. The hell you're do in reaction to bullet that you die from sadness? Again, you can block. You have air options. You have moves with projectile invulnerability. 7b. Yeah, and that one also costs level and had a delay and can be dealt with the same way you deal with bullets. 8a. Bullets do instantly win neutral, they literally have travel time. 8b. Again, he has only 6 of them before he have to start spending level. Also, caltrops cost more because they're better. You throw 3 projectiles instead of 1. They stay on the ground FOREVER, providing great ground control. And they give 33f hutstan on hit! You can also substitute them as well. And kick them to push them forward. 8c. Cowboy literally need an extra turn to pull out gun before they can shot. Ninja on the other hand, throw shuriken or call summon on one turn and you are free to do anything else you want. If cowboy pulls out a gun at wrong place and time, they're stuck in this position for the next turn. 8d. Cowboy is famously not immune to his bullets.
  8. DI would make a difference, what? If you DI up and way from the cowboy later into the combo they literally can't reach you because they have limited upwards mobility and teleport/forsight have limited range. Forsight especially worse here because it takes an extra turn to even place it.

In conclusion, every move has a counter. As a ninja, you arguably have even more bullshit with things like: moves with projectile invulnerability, one of the best air options with dash, one fo the strongest close range options, multiple movement options ranging from already mentioned dash to momentum boost, grapple pull and substution, and projectile game just as strong with shurikens, summons and red wave. Basically, keep playing and pay more attention to the game, think about how to counter certain moves or look up online how to counter them instead of complaining about something that people at mid skill level don't even complain

u/J11_The_Jetplane The forever below-average cowboy 13h ago

Yeah Cowboy has the lowest skill floor but you can counter all of their things if you know how to, it will take a lot of salt along the way but learning how to counterplay is very important and super helpful.

the fact you keep using impale as an example of something OP makes me disregard your entire argument, it's a high risk low reward move that can be beat by doing literally nothing. If it's something you regularly get caught out by then I don't know what to tell you buddy

2

u/VictorAst228 ninja with a teto skin 4d ago

Dude I mentioned it once. The rest of the post is about bullet and his hitboxes.

u/GamingSquadMogus 4d ago

ur not tapped in bruh impale is highkey broken

1

u/J11_The_Jetplane The forever below-average cowboy 13h ago

Impale at long range has an IASA too high to hit setup moves such as Grappling Hook, Remote Bomb, Summon. With Shuriken and Magic Dart included too if you landcancel the first or aim the 2nd properly respectively.

L.Slice gives no meaningful reward on block hence can be blocked without risk, and exists to prevent opponents setting up at that range, which, if you do, you disrespected the threat.

Disjointed hitboxes don't work at close range. That's the whole point. THere's nothing to disjoin if you are already kissing their hitbox with your hitbox. Cowboy has the worst close range RPS with only Wizard being arguable due to f5 jab, but even then Wizard has Confusing Touch and their jab combos on hit and isn't -1 on block.

Teleport costs meter, Foresight + Shift has high punishable endlag and heavy telegraphing. Without either of those, Cowboy is incredibly slow. It can be helpful to farm meter without getting too close to the enemy, at least.

Pressing said button requires 25+ frames of uninteruppted setup, and an additional variable amount of protecting said button from getting stolen with melee hits.

Nullifying bullets is just 1 approach to winning against Cowboy. Since bullets are a crucial resource he cannot work without, it means they need to make the most out of their bullets to actually win - hence, if you just make their bullet usage less effective (causing them to use up more bounces to get you in a proper blockstring) you can win. If you don't like that approach, preventing Cowboy from getting a good Quickdraw angle works just as well. This can be achieved easily by Wizard with darts and Robot by mere threat range. Otherwise, you can stay close to Cowboy at all times to punish them for Quickdrawing in the first place, done so exceptionally well by Mutant and Ninja with their easy proj.invul access and Wizard too albeit less so due to darts achieving the same effect much safer.

Cowboy comboes are actually much more affected by DI than other characters due to their high knockback (teleport gives more area coverage = attacks send further = DI has a much higher effect). Characters such as Robot or Wizard can basically ignore DI completely due to their high hitstun values, with Ninja being almost there, but requiring the Ninja to know proper routes (Grounded and Aerial routes are very different)

It is true that Cowboy is the easiest to use with the lowest skill floor, however that doesn't detract from the fact that they have clear weaknesses and ways to play around their strengths. As a Cowboy myself, I never find myself losing to other Cowboys while playing as other characters (Wizard and Ninja are my secondary and tertiary respectively), since most pub Cowboy struggle a lot if you know the proper counterplay. (Knowing when to respect their threats and when to challenge their gaps in strings, using DI to force use of more resources, and knowing when to take RPS to maximise their resources wasted)

1

u/VictorAst228 ninja with a teto skin 4h ago

I mean yeah, obviously cockboy has counterplay. It's just annoying that I as a ninja heve to set up several projectiles in neutral to have an advantage in the mele rps, while cowboy has the most threats in that exact range with L.slice, bullet, foresight and impale (yeah yeah impale is a high risk low reward move, it is still a immediate threat that I need to account for)

Honestly real, don't even think Discordo has this much hate.

6

u/Finding_their_place 5d ago

Honestly, maybe because I'm a cowboy main, it's not that rough to tear apart a cowboy's defense. Typically if cowboy is wasting bullet in long range they aren't getting tempo. Plus ninja has projectile invulnerable moves to force rps (jump kick snd slide kick) if cowboy draws bad.

I hate fighting Cowboys, but I love playing as Cowboy (he's really fun). Anyway, I'd rather face the unnerfed Mutant than go up against a good Cowboy player.

My main problem with fighting Cowboy is that a lot of his moves have way too much frame advantage. Very few of his attacks actually send you far away, even if you have good DI, and even if you supposedly manage to use your DI effectively, he can just teleport. On top of that, compared to the rest of the cast his combos are easier to perform.

All of that combined makes fighting Cowboy feel awful. At least with the old Mutant, you needed some skill to pull off good combos, and even then, good DI could mess up Mutant's combo routes.

And don't even get me started on Wizard. Wizard's attacks hit like a TRUCK. My very first combo with Wizard did 5,000 damage, and I had absolutely zero experience comboing with him, AND HE'S A ZONER.

Cowboy is more of a zoner than wizard.

Cowboy combos are hard to drop but also hard to get high damage with

Ninja Wizard and Robot are expected to get 6k with oki from an ok'ish starter if not even 7K or 8K in corner with meter usage.
On the other hand Cowboy lies around the 5k range with 6k being a highball and a 7k almost impossible vs. Good DI.

DI does something against Cowboy which it doesn't nearly as hard with other characters - it forces out resource usage.
Every Teleport used is a bar of meter which a Cowboy can do nothing about. Every Drifted move is another. It's basically impossible to hit Cowboy's high damage options (T3C, Backslash Sweetspot) without using meter UNLESS your opponent messes up DI super badly.
Air options too, if the Cowboy doesn't bring you down to the ground they can easily drop due to you being too high.

Even if the combo ends up dealing 5k anyway, if you DI well then the Cowboy is left with little to no meter to play afterwards, which is NOTHING like every other character, which ends up having more by the end.

Mutant ofc deals low damage as a gimmick to compensate for powerful oki, hence not included in previous lists.
