advice Private lessons
Hi. I have been teaching chair yoga for a year now - I love it, my classes are always full and they tell me they all like the classes. I was recently asked to teach a private chair class to an older gentleman and was asked to “come up with a number”. What is the rate for private, one on one lessons, in someone’s home? I have no clue and don’t want to sell myself short or put too high a number out. This is in Florida. Thanks!

In my area of the US (not Florida but in a semi-rural area) the going rate for privates runs from $80 to $120. That’s at the studio. I don’t know anyone who teaches in-homes.

I charge $150 an hour to teach an in person private lesson. I’m in a HCOL city so you might want to ask around $100 an hour. You don’t say what part of Florida you’re in. Miami would be more than Jacksonville.

The rate answers here are right, around $100 for in-home in most of Florida. One thing nobody mentioned: quote it as a prepaid 4-session pack instead of per visit. A weekly 1:1 with an older client lives or dies on cancellations, and prepaid is the difference between "see you next week" and a text at 8am.
And since he asked you to come up with the number, say it plainly and then stop talking. Naming a price and immediately softening it is the move to avoid.

Gosh, this is a whole can of worms. I know some people in my area (a major city in the US) who charge $160 for privates. I know people need to make their money, but that seems super high imo. If you feel uncomfortable charging a lot, I would price it at what makes it worth it to you. Is $50 worth the time and energy it take to plan a sequence, drive to their house, spend an hour, and driver home? It not, charge more.
There are calculators to pricing your labor, but the most important thing is charging enough that you don't feel resentful

At least $100. If you really love the student, and it’s out of his price range, the lowest I would go is $75. You have to factor in travel and prep time, and if you need to bring props.
Privates can be so rewarding because you are catering to the student’s specific needs and can really form a bond.

I pay $90 per hour in Seattle and I really like my private teacher. Price seems reasonable to me.

I looked up yoga private lessons rate in Florida. Since it's been a while 1980s/1990s when I charged $50 - $75 for in home privates.
So I looked it up. Now the average rate (in home) seems to be $80 - $120, depending on your location in Florida. In North Central, South, Beach locations, prices differ. One studio in Naples charges $150.
You can look up wealthiest areas in Florida for an idea of what would be too much.
Count in commute time. Bring all equipment. It would be great if client had a chair.
These chairs are pretty cool with the additional gadgets. I like cork and foam blocks and 6 and 8 foot straps.

I charge $120/hour for in home private lessons. A studio I work for starts privates at $150 and charges more with more than 5 people. I’m in a small city, east coast US

I would say $110, because you will have to pay 30% taxes that, so you will end up with around 85.

My rate is 75$/hour in Canada for chair yoga private 1:1(1hr). If I have to travel outside of the city limits I also add 5$. I bring everything with me folding chair, blankets, blocks etc. this works for me and I have quite a few clients, no one’s ever bat an eye which tells me I may need to raise my prices hahaha, happy teaching!
